International Translation Day 2017

  

On September 28, our department hosted a celebration in honor of the Day of the Translator. The head and many teachers of the department, students of 1, 2, 3, 4 courses, pupils of specialized schools №132 and №62 took part in the meeting. Moreover the graduates who gladly shared their experiences and gave the students inspiration for new achievements were not forgotten and were invited to the celebration.
The students of 1, 2 and 4 courses gave a flashback to the history of the profession, told about the educational process in the NTU “KhPI”, as well as the most interesting part of it – the Theater of English Miniatures.
The highlight of the holiday was a comedy scene from first-year students about all the difficulties of learning foreign languages.

Linguistic trainings and the delegations exchange with foreign universities

Since 2009, National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’ (NTU ‘KhPI’) has been cooperating with Michel de Montaigne University (Bordeaux-3) in Bordeaux, France, and Berlin Humboldt University. The Department of the Russian and Ukrainian Languages and Applied Linguistics of NTU ‘KhPI’ is working together with the Faculty of Languages and Civilizations (Bordeaux-3) and the Department of Slavic Studies of Berlin University.

The universities have an agreement that provides students and doctoral students exchanges. The program does not aim to study the language, but provides philology and humanities research and attending linguistics, literature, history, and journalism classes.

Those students of our university who have a sufficient level of French (B1, B2) are allowed to take part in the exchange program.

Professor V.V.Dubichynskyi, the Head of the Department of the Russian and Ukrainian Languages and Applied Linguistics is the coordinator of this program.

In 2012 two students of the Business Foreign Language and Translation Department of NTU ‘KhPI’, 3 students of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and a coordinator from our university visited Bordeaux-3. Linguistic training continued there for one month. The students visited classes in French-Russian translation, French literature, history, phonetics and practice speech. Our students prepared a presentation of Kharkiv and NTU ‘KhPI’ and presented it to the students of Bordeaux-3.

August 25, 2012. Four students from Bordeaux-3 University visited Kharkiv to take training in linguistic, aiming to get acquainted with the culture of Ukraine and Russia, the Russian language and history.

September 03, 2012. There was a meeting of French students and the first-year students of the Business Foreign Language and Translation Department, the students discussed their universities and training.

September 13, 2012. There was a meeting of German doctoral students of Humboldt University of Berlin and the 3-to-5-year students of the Business Foreign Language and Translation Department, at the meeting colleagues from Germany reported about their University and their training in our city.

After the study-course in our city students get their certificates.

The language training courses at Bordeaux University, France were undertaken by O. V. Andreeva, a senior lecturer of The Business Foreign Language and Translation Department, and A. R. Tomilko, a student of 60b group (02.23.2011.- 03.21.2011.) The goal of the trip was to share teaching experience, establish scientific contacts, and language training.

Results:
● 03.18. 2011: at the conference “Day of Ukraine” a report about the Business foreign language and translation department was presented
● a new teaching experience from French teachers was gained
● the level of French was increased
● the science contacts for further cooperation were established

We believe that these productive relationship between the two universities will develop.

English theatre festival

December 16, 2010. The Business Foreign Language and Translation Department organized a regular English Theatre Festival for students. There were 6 performances held according to the program. The faculty jury congratulated the winners of academical groups IF-67а, IF-67b, IF-66а. Daniel Koltak (IF-66a) and Anna Mamalat (IP-28a) were honored as The Best Actor and The Best Actress.

Olympiad

In October 2010, a team of NTU “KhPI” students took third place in the First International LANGUAGE CONTEST on Public Relations in foreign languages “PR Inter Voice”. The contest was held at Saint-Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics (Russia). Students of our department – Ilya Dovgal, Marina Kosenko and Olexander Caravan – were among the winners.

Students Scientific Conference

19.03.2010 The VI Interuniversity Scientific Conference “SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL TRANSLATION: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS” took place at the Business Foreign Language and Translation Department. The conference had 4 sections:

  1. Theoretical and practical issues of business correspondence translation.
  2. Theoretical and practical issues of special fields translation.
  3. Artistic and stylistic features of translation.
  4. Structural and grammatical, functional and stylistic features of English-Ukrainian translation.

4-to-5-year students of NTU “KhPI” Business Foreign Language and Translation Department took part in the conference, as well as students of V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University. Fifty-five reports were presented at the conference.

Head of the Business Foreign Language and Translation Department A.A.Badan, senior lecturer O.V.Kolesnikova and visiting lecturer from the U.S. Merian McGwire greeted students at the plenary session.
