Scientific work at the department is conducted in three main directions.
– Electromechanical conversion of energy in perspective rail transport (head – prof. Omelyanenko V.I.)
– Resource- and energy-saving technologies on railways
(supervisor – Assoc. Over’yanova L.V..).
– Dynamics of railway rolling stock and its interaction with the rail track (head – prof. Masliev V.G..).
Works of direction Electromechanical energy conversion in perspective rail transport were held on the following topics: Traction electric drive of rolling stock; Trains with tilting bodies; Energy accumulators for railways.
Works by topic traction electric drive of rolling stock headed by prof. Lyubarsky B.H. At this time, theoretical foundations have been created for evaluating the efficiency of energy conversion systems in the traction electric drive based on modern and promising electric motors: asynchronous, synchronous with electromagnetic excitation and excitation from permanent magnets, as well as induction – reactive and with an axial field. On the basis of these principles, a software-algorithmic complex was created, which makes it possible to determine rational types of electromechanical energy converters for suburban, interregional and high-speed trains.
For trains with tilting bodies for the first time in the world, a tilting system drive based on an electromagnetic linear motor was proposed, which provides the conversion of electrical energy directly into the tilting of the car body during its movement in curved sections of the track. The regularities of connections between the geometric and electrophysical parameters of the drive and its operating characteristics have been established.
As a means of energy saving for rolling stock and power supply systems of railways, the department has developed an inertial energy accumulator with a ring-type rotor and an electromechanical energy conversion system in the form of an inverted direct current machine with excitation from permanent magnets and a semiconductor switch. It has been proven that the use of such storage in the traction network can significantly reduce voltage fluctuations in the catenary network, as well as level the daily load schedule. It is shown that the use of this type of storage device as an on-board device on suburban electric trains provides more than 30% electricity savings in each “acceleration-braking” cycle during stops.
The works in this direction were carried out under the state order and in accordance with business contracts.
