The Department was founded in 1961 for the training of electrical engineers on a speciality “Electric measuring equipment” and had an appropriate name. The first engineers graduated in 1962. In 50 years of its existence the Department has trained more than six thousand experts in the field of instrumentation and measurement techniques.

Since 1990 the department has been providing training of three full-time learning and one distance learning groups of students. In 1994 specialization “Metrology, standardization and certification” was opened. The department carries out training of specialists in the scope of certification of industrial output on the basis of intelligent information systems of quality management of production.

The Department trains bachelors and masters in the scope of knowledge 15 “Automation and instrumentation” in specialty 152 “Metrology and information-measuring technology” in specializations 152-01 “Metrology and measuring techniques” and 152-02 “Information measuring systems”.
Graduates combines electrician, electronics engineer and system analyst. They can work in Metrology and certification test centres, enterprises, firms of all forms of ownership of different sectors of the economy where used information-measuring and computer engineering, control systems and information processing.
