The department was founded in 1950. It provides the educational process in the discipline of “Physical Education” for students of 1 – 4 courses of all specialities of full-time education.

Since 1994 the training of bachelors, specialists and masters in the speciality “Physical Education and Sport” has been licensed and accredited.

The department has a unique material base for classes in more than 30 types of sports and recreation. There are more than 60 teachers, coaches and scientists at the chair.

The main scientific directions of the department are technical, methodical and informational support of training of student-athletes, humanistic aspects of physical culture and

sports, professional-applied physical training of students, assessments of physical fitness and health status of students, management and marketing of individual sports and

recreation.
