“Polymers in the nature”!
1. About competition
Competition is conducting for those who are fond of biology and chemistry and wish to learn about the wonderful world of polymers in living nature, and about their role in the origin of life on Earth. By deepening your knowledge in biopolymers, you will feel their motivating force, learn their role and significance in the evolutionary processes and life of modern civilization. We will be happy if you decide to deepen your knowledge by enrolling in the University for specialization in which the department trains bachelors, masters, Ph.D.
Our competition will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your creative abilities in an adversarial manner.
2. Terms and procedure:
The competition is held on an ongoing basis. The works of the participants are published on the site of the department ” Of plastics and biologically active polymers technologies”
The winners of the competition are awarded with Diplomas I, II, III degrees and prizes.
Participants of the contest will be invited to the department, where our lectors and students will show you fascinating experiments with polymers and will give exhaustive answers to all questions about the admission rules and studies at our University.
3. Competitive tasks:
All participants are invited to answer the following 5 questions:
1. What would our lunch consist of, if in nature there were no biopolymers – which are the basis of all living things? (30 points)
2. What is the relationship between DNA molecules and a modern computer? (20 points)
3. It is known that macromolecules are built of a large number of small particles, connected together by a chemical bond. Think of an example to draw an analogy between your example and the macromolecule. (10 points)
4. Which of the synthetic polymers has the same chemical structure with protein molecules? (10 points)
5. Why can potatoes become sweet when stored? What should I do to make the sweet taste of potatoes disappear? If you can, you need to describe the chemical processes that occur in this case. (30 points)
Each question is evaluated in points. For the original and correct answers to all questions, the winner gets 100 points.
5. Requirements for competitive works:
Works can be performed in electronic form in the program for the participant’s choice.
