History of the department

The course of electrical engineering as an independent discipline began to be read at our university in 1892 by Nikolay Petrovich Klobukov. As a doctor of philosophy at the University of Erlangen, in 1891 he transferred to a robot at our university, and in the same year he organized an electrical engineering laboratory, which was housed in a physical building. In 1894, Klobukov N.P. issued a course of lectures on electrical engineering, which has become a mandatory discipline for students of all specialties.

Since 1898, Professor Kopnyaev Pavel Petrovich read a course of lectures on electrical engineering. In 1931, he became the first head of the department of general electrical engineering, created on the basis of the electrical engineering department.

However, for reasons of health, it was already difficult for him to lead the department, and his former graduate student Khinkulov Alexey Kharitonovich, who supervised the department until 1942, replaced him. From 1942 to 1947, the department was headed by assistant professor Baru Ilya Isaakovich, and in 1948-49 the head of the department (part-time) was the well-known organizer of the electrical industry – professor Fainberg Yuly Mironovich.

For 20 years (from 1950 to 1970), the department was headed by Associate Professor Anokhin Fedor Ivanovich, being at the same time a vice-rector of the institute.

From 1970 to 1978 the department was headed by a famous scientist in the field of electrical engineering professor Tolkunov Vladimir Petrovich. On his initiative, the department began to conduct a large research work, there was a large number of graduate students who successfully defended themselves. In the same year, research was started on the technical use of superconductivity in high-speed ground transportation, headed by Omelyanenko Viktor Ivanovich, who soon became a doctor of technical sciences, professor.
At the same time he began to engage in scientific research related to the calculations of electromagnetic fields and electrodynamic parameters of highly used electric machines for various purposes. Milykh Vladimir Ivanovich. His work attracted the attention of many electric machine-building centers of the USSR.

In 1996 he became a doctor of technical sciences. After in 1978, Professor Tolkunov V.P. went to work at another institute, the department until 1983 was headed by associate professor Karpenko Fedor Timofeevich. At this time, the department from the physical building was transferred to the electrical building, a new teaching laboratory was created, one of the best in the USSR at that time.

As a good methodologist and experienced teacher, associate professor Karpenko F.T. repeatedly invited to lecture in developing countries.
In order to raise the level of applied content of the disciplines being read, several candidates of technical sciences from production were invited to the department, including the chief designer of the Electromashina plant Anatoly Kuzmich Cherkasov, who became one of the best teachers of the department.

From 1983 to 2017, the department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Danko Vladimir Grigorievich. Prior to that, he devoted 25 years to the development and implementation of high-power electric machines, working at the Research Institute of the Electrotyazhmash plant. They supported the scientific work that was conducted at the department, as well as proposed and developed new scientific directions, in particular, on linear electric motors.
This scientific direction was decisive for the professor of the department Bolyukh Vladimir Fedorovich, who in 2003 p. defended his doctoral thesis.
