On December 10, we celebrate the anniversary of Galina Mykolayivna Shabanova, Academician of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Chemical Technologies and Engineering, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Professor. For almost 50 years, Galina Mykolayivna has been working at Kharkiv Polytechnic, having started her career as a laboratory assistant and rising to the position of Professor at the Department of Refractory Materials, Glass, and Enamels at NTU “KhPI.”

Professor Shabanova is one of the leading materials scientists in the field of creating special binders for multifunctional purposes based on multi-component oxide systems. She has more than 500 scientific works to her name, 26 author’s certificates and patents, 13 monographs, and more than 10 textbooks. Galina Mykolayivna is highly regarded as a scientist and expert in higher educational institutions, research institutes, and enterprises both in Ukraine and abroad.

She generously shares her knowledge and experience with her students—under her guidance, 16 candidates of sciences and 3 doctors of technical sciences have been trained. Her students have repeatedly won national and regional competitions in the fields of “Technical Sciences” and “Construction and Civil Engineering.”

For her scientific achievements and contribution to the development of modern materials science, Galina Mykolayivna has received a Letter of Gratitude from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as from the Mayor of Kharkiv.

Today, as the head of a department that combines the Laboratory of Structural Ceramics and Refractories with the Laboratory of Special Binders and Composite Materials, she acts as a magnetic force, uniting employees, students, and colleagues who are truly her friends and like-minded people, continuing the legacy of her outstanding mentors, particularly Professor Y.I. Vediya.

This fragile but internally strong and organized woman seems to do everything, and her sincere heart is enough for everyone. Galina Mykolayivna has raised two wonderful sons, is now caring for two grandchildren, and already has four great-grandchildren.

On this wonderful winter day, the faculty of the Department of Ceramic Technology, Refractories, Glass, and Enamels at the Institute of Chemical Technologies and Engineering, NTU “KhPI,” along with her friends and colleagues, sincerely congratulate Galina Mykolayivna on her anniversary and wish her good health, creative inspiration, and many grateful and successful students!
