Step-by-Step Guide for Applicants

TAKE YOUR FIRST STEPS TOWARD SUCCESS!

STEP 1.

To apply for first-year studies based on External Independent Evaluation (EIE), the applicant must fill out an electronic application online, which will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee of NTU “KhPI”.
In the application, applicants must specify:

  • The higher education institution (National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”);

  • The institute or faculty (Educational and Scientific Institute of Chemical Technologies and Engineering);

  • The major and academic program (161 Chemical Technologies and Engineering);

  • The form of study (full-time or part-time; state-funded or contract-based).

NB! Our major is among those receiving special government support. Therefore, if you indicate both state-funded and contract-based options, even if you do not qualify for the budget on ranking, there is still a chance to transfer from contract to budget if vacancies are available.

STEP 2.

In the application, you also need to indicate the priority of this choice relative to other applications (from “1” to “9”).
Priority “1” means your top preference.

NB! If you wish to study with state funding, you must give our program priority “1” or “2” in your application.

STEP 3.

When submitting original documents to the Admissions Committee, you must indicate the specialization:

161.04 “Chemical Technology of Refractory Non-Metallic and Silicate Materials”

NB! For help with submitting electronic or paper applications, please contact the responsible admission officer from the Department of Ceramics, Glass, and Enamels Technology:

Prof. Olena Yuriyivna Fedorenko
📞 +38 (050) 713-03-35; +38 (063) 297-03-13

NTU “KhPI” Admissions Office works according to the schedule (specific hours will be announced later). Here are typical working hours:

Day Working Hours
Monday – Friday 9:00 – 17:00
Saturday 9:00 – 15:00 / 9:00 – 18:00 (varies)
Sunday 9:00 – 15:00 (if open)
Thursday 8:00 – 17:00
Special Days 8:00 – 18:00 (Mon–Sat)

STEP 4.

For admission to the first year, EIE certificates from 2017, 2018, or 2019 are accepted in the following subjects:

  • Ukrainian Language and Literature (Subject 1);

  • Mathematics (Subject 2);

  • Chemistry or Biology or Physics (Subject 3 – optional).

Bonus: +20 points are awarded to winners of NTU “KhPI” subject Olympiads (in-person second round) in one of the competitive subjects.

Competitive Score (CS) is calculated by the formula:

CS = 0.3 × S1 + 0.3 × S2 + 0.3 × S3 + 0.1 × A

Where:

  • S1, S2, S3 = scores from EIE in the three subjects

  • A = average school certificate grade (GPA)

Then CS is multiplied by additional coefficients:

  • Rural coefficient: 1.02 (for students from rural schools); 1.05 for majors with state support

  • Industry coefficient: 1.02 (for priorities 1 or 2 in engineering/science/technology fields with state support)

  • Regional coefficient: 1.02 (for graduates of Kharkiv schools)

NB! If you give our program 1st or 2nd priority, your score is additionally multiplied by the industry coefficient. If you are from Kharkiv, you also get the regional coefficient. If you’re from a rural school, a rural coefficient applies as well — all cumulative.

STEP 5.

If, after the ranking is published (August 27, 2020), your name appears on the list of recommended applicants for budget or contract study in the program 161 Chemical Technologies and Engineering at NTU “KhPI”, and you decide to become our student, please visit the Admissions Office of the Institute of Chemical Technologies and Engineering (1st floor, Chemical Building) to submit your original documents.

You will need to prepare:

  • Passport (original + copy)

  • Taxpayer ID code (original + copy)

  • EIE certificates in Ukrainian Language and Literature, Mathematics, and Chemistry or Biology

  • High school diploma + transcript

  • Military ID or registration certificate (for male applicants)

  • Four 3×4 cm color photographs

  • Medical certificate form 086/o (required for dormitory settlement)
