On March 27, a round table titled “Veteran Space of NTU ‘KhPI’: Prospects, Opportunities, Challenges” was held at the Kharkiv Regional Council as part of the XVI International Exhibition “Modern Educational Institutions – 2026.”
Veterans face a number of challenges, including the need for psychological rehabilitation, finding a new role in society, retraining, and employment. Education is a key tool that helps them adapt to civilian life, acquire new knowledge and professional skills, and build successful careers.
The event was dedicated to the pressing issue of supporting male and female veterans, whose number in the Kharkiv region continues to grow and, as of early 2026, has already exceeded 100,000 people. It was emphasized that assisting veterans is not only a social responsibility but also an important factor in the resilience and development of the region.
On behalf of the Head of the Regional Council, Tetiana Yehorova-Lutsenko, her deputy Valeriia Dziuba joined the discussion. The round table was also attended by the Rector of the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute,” Yevhen Sokol, regional council deputies, representatives of higher education institutions, the veteran space “Plich-o-Plich,” the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, and public organizations, including the Kharkiv IT Cluster.
Rector Yevhen Sokol emphasized that NTU “KhPI” is systematically developing its veteran policy—from psychological support to the creation of innovative solutions, including the “Elomia” project, which provides psychological assistance in the form of an application.

Participants of the round table highlighted the importance of consolidating efforts to ensure effective reintegration of veterans into civilian life through education, employment, and patriotic education of youth. This format of open dialogue fosters the emergence of ideas that can later evolve into large-scale projects.
During the event, key directions for the development of the veteran space at the university were discussed, including: the formation of a comprehensive support and integration system; the development of psychological assistance involving multidisciplinary teams of the university clinic; the implementation of technological solutions for rehabilitation (sensors, analytics); opportunities for professional realization in the field of renewable energy; and tools to support veterans during the admission campaign.

Special attention was paid to new educational opportunities, including the introduction of “winter admission,” which helps veterans prepare for their studies. The university operates a university clinic and an educational and scientific medical institute, providing both psychological support and physical rehabilitation for combatants and their families. At the same time, the need for further modernization of infrastructure for people with disabilities was emphasized, requiring joint efforts of the university, regional authorities, and partners.
It is essential to unite the efforts of the state, educational institutions, and society to ensure the successful integration of veterans and their families into the new reality.
