Scientific’s Peer Review Process for Books

All new book proposals are accompanied by sample material, mainly in the form of representative chapters of the manuscript (including an introductory or overview chapter) and a draft table of contents.
The documents go through a single-blind peer review process whereby the book author is not privy to the identity of the reviewer, even if the reviewer is informed of the author’s identity and may receive the author’s CV and credentials to make an informed decision.

Each proposal is subject to a minimum of 2 reviews, whereby the comments of each are forwarded to the author for further action, where applicable. If major revisions are required, we reserve the right to consider the proposal only if the author shows evidence that steps are being taken to revise the manuscript.

The book approval committee will then convene to decide, based on the revised manuscript. The committee may also recommend that the revised manuscript is subject to another unbiased review.

The above describes a standard procedure that is adopted for most titles, which may sometimes vary, depending on the specifics of the title.
