Why us?
Today, more than ever before, we are on the verge of global changes in science and technology. Research and development aimed at creating new materials, energy-efficient processes and sustainable technologies play a key role in solving the most pressing problems of our time.
The Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology, Catalysis and Ecology is a place where innovations that can change the world are born at the intersection of fundamental knowledge and practical skills. By joining our department, you become part of a team that addresses current challenges in the field of chemical technology and ecology, develops efficient catalytic processes and develops new, more environmentally friendly materials. We teach you not only to work with advanced technologies, but also to look to the future, to anticipate and prevent possible environmental risks.
Our students and researchers are constantly involved in research activities, developing and implementing solutions for industrial enterprises that minimise environmental impact and promote more efficient use of natural resources. We believe that the development of inorganic chemistry and catalysis, along with the search for sustainable solutions in the field of ecology, is one of the most important areas of modern science. The problems of environmental pollution, irrational use of energy and natural resources, as well as the safety of chemical processes require not only knowledge but also practical skills to solve them effectively. That is why the department actively cooperates with leading research and production centres to provide our students with a unique opportunity to work on real projects and tasks.
We invite you to become part of this exciting journey. If you want to study modern trends in the field of chemistry and learn how to develop and implement innovative technologies that will help improve the environmental situation in the world, then our department is the perfect place for your development. During your studies, you will not only learn the basics of chemical technology and catalysis, but also apply your knowledge to real-world problems. Don’t miss the chance to develop your potential and become a specialist who will influence the future of our planet.
We are confident that with your participation we will be able to make a significant contribution to the creation of sustainable, safe and efficient technologies that will benefit society and nature. Join the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology, Catalysis and Ecology – together we can create a future where chemistry and ecology go hand in hand!

A little history
The Department of Inorganic Substances Technology was established in 1885 and was one of the first departments of the Kharkiv Institute of Technology. The department was headed by Valerii Oleksandrovych Hemilian, a student and associate of D.I. Mendeleev. From 1938 to 1986, the department was headed by Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, Laureate of the L.V. Pysarzhevsky Prize, Honoured Scientist of the Ukrainian SSR. Since 2024, the department has been headed by a student of the academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine O.Y. Loboyko, PhD, Associate Professor Oleksandr Viktorovych Kobzev.
The educational concept of the department is based on the departure from the narrow professional training of specialists for a particular field of knowledge. The department’s educational programme and curriculum meet international standards in the field of chemical technology and engineering. They have an applied orientation and are aimed at solving complex specialised tasks and practical problems of chemical technology and engineering. The special programme is based on: concepts, regularities and methods of mathematics, physics and chemistry used in chemical engineering; conceptual foundations of development and implementation of technological processes; calculations and design of chemical production machines and apparatus.
More about the history of the departmentThe department trains bachelors, masters and doctors of philosophy in the speciality 161 Chemical Technology and Engineering.
