NTU “KhPI” was established in 1885 and was then called the Kharkiv Practical Technological Institute. The first admission of students was 125 people: 85 to the mechanical and 40 to the chemical departments. See more at the link.
Today, NTU “KhPI” is one of the leading technical universities in Ukraine and confidently holds leading positions in the world ranking of universities Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. An important event in 2023 was the signing of the updated Magna Charta Universitatum by the rector of the university, which confirms NTU “KhPI”‘s desire to integrate into the European educational and scientific community.
In 2023, almost 5 thousand students, including more than 670 foreign citizens, joined the family of Kharkiv Polytechnic.
The priority for the university is the development of international relations, the formation and implementation of new educational, research and innovation projects under the Erasmus, Horizon Europe, STCU, etc. programmes, as well as the restoration and reconstruction of infrastructure.
The teaching staff of the department consists of 5 lecturers, including 5 associate professors, PhDs. See more at the link.
The educational concept of the Department of Chemical Technology, Engineering and Management is based on a shift away from narrowly focused training of specialists in a particular field of knowledge. The department’s educational programme and curriculum meet international standards in the field of chemical technology and engineering. They have an applied orientation and are aimed at solving complex specialised tasks and practical problems of chemical technology and engineering. The special programme is based on: concepts, regularities and methods of mathematics, physics and chemistry used in chemical engineering; conceptual principles of development and implementation of technological processes; calculations and design of machines and apparatus of chemical production. The main competitive advantage of graduates of the Department of Chemical Engineering is the ability to analyse information and draw conclusions.
The department trains specialists in the speciality 161 – Chemical Technology and Engineering.
At the Department of Chemical Technology, Engineering and Environmental Engineering of NTU “KhPI”, full-time education is provided under the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. All training is in Ukrainian.
Detailed information about the study programmes:
- Bachelor’s degree – Chemical Technology and Engineering (speciality G1 – Chemical Technology and Engineering);
- Master’s degree – Chemical Technology and Engineering (speciality 161 – Chemical Technology and Engineering).
The department’s scientific activities are aimed at developing new and improving existing technologies for basic chemical synthesis and catalytic processes, including environmental protection, environmental chemical technologies, and research in the field of nanotechnology and nanomaterials.
Scientific research at the Department of Chemical Engineering, K and E is carried out in three scientific areas:
- study of the process of oxidation of low-concentration nitrogen oxides;
- studying the conditions of direct interaction of sodium and potassium chlorides with nitric acid to produce sodium nitrate and other products;
- research on finding ways to regenerate a vanadium catalyst in the production of sulfuric acid.
The publications of the department’s staff can be found on the personal pages of each lecturer, as well as in the repository of the NTU “KhPI” Scientific and Technical Library.
Each year, undergraduate and postgraduate students take an active part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students “Theoretical and Practical Research of Young Scientists” (Section 4. Chemical Technology and Food Industry, Biotechnology and Mineral Resources Development).
The Educational and Research Institute of Chemical Technology and Engineering was established in 2018 on the basis of three faculties: Organic Substances Technology, Inorganic Substances Technology and Integrated Technology and Chemical Engineering, which were opened in the century before last.
The institute includes thirteen departments. The institute graduates specialists at the following educational qualification levels: Bachelor, Master, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Education is provided in full-time and part-time forms of study.
Students are trained in four specialities and fifteen specialisations.
Applicants who have a junior specialist diploma are admitted to study on a shorter training period, provided they enter a related field of study without external testing.
Today, about 150 teachers, including 30 professors and doctors of sciences, and about 90 candidates of sciences, teach at the University. The application of progressive teaching methods, the widespread use of modern computer hardware, software and information technology in the educational process, a strong material base, student participation in research, and close ties with leading enterprises and institutions in the industry allow us to train highly qualified specialists.
Bachelor of Chemical Technology and Engineering.
- design technologies for basic chemical products;
- organise the production of products and manage technological processes at existing enterprises;
- carry out expertise and control over product quality;
