IMPROVEMENT OF THE PROCESS OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF NITRIC ACID IN THE UKL

A method for accelerating the process of oxidation of nitrogen (II) oxide by oxygen is proposed, taking into account the homogeneous-heterogeneous nature of the reaction.
The nitrogen gas preparation unit for absorption in the units of the Severodonetsk Azot Association CJSC was modernised by installing an additional oxidiser with mass transfer elements in front of the absorption column.The upgrade resulted in:
– an increase in nitric acid concentration to 58.0-59.5% by weight;
– a reduction in nitrogen oxides in the absorption exhaust gases to 0.08-0.09% by volume, with ammonia savings of 204 tonnes per year.
