About the Department

History, areas of activity, research, and international cooperation
History of the Department
The Department of General Pharmacy was established on April 30, 2021, and became part of the
Educational and Research Medical Institute of NTU “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”.
The Department was headed by Ihor Mykhailovych Hrubnyk, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor.
Despite the fact that the Department began its activities during a challenging period — the COVID-19
pandemic and the outbreak of hostilities — the Department’s staff managed not only to ensure
the continuity of the educational process but also to lay a strong foundation for further development.
During the first two years (2021–2022), 12 continuing professional development programs
for pharmacy specialists were developed and implemented, with approximately 600 participants
from across Ukraine completing the training.
Today, the Department continues to actively expand its educational activities: its portfolio
includes 22 training courses covering the most relevant areas of the pharmaceutical
industry, with approximately 700 specialists receiving professional development training each year.
Academic and Teaching Staff
The Department’s academic and teaching staff has been formed in accordance with the needs
of postgraduate education and current areas of pharmaceutical science and practice.
At various times, the Department has been home to renowned scholars, including Professors Liudmyla Mykolaivna
Maloshtan and Liudmyla Vasylivna Yakovlieva, whose names are well known in the Ukrainian
school of pharmacology.
Issues related to pharmacy organization and management, pharmaceutical management, and
marketing are overseen by Associate Professor Dmytro Lvivovych Velykyi, who actively implements
innovative methods of continuous professional education.
The area of pharmaceutical analysis, standardization, and quality control of medicinal products
is successfully developed by Associate Professor Olha Volodymyrivna Chorna.
The field of pharmaceutical technology and the development of medicinal and cosmetic products
is represented by Professor Ihor Mykhailovych Hrubnyk, a specialist in the development
of soft and solid dosage forms, and Associate Professor Yuliia Viktorivna Yudina, who
specializes in the technology of herbal medicinal products and cosmetics.
Since 2023, the Department’s staff has included Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor,
Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine Ihor Albertovych Zupanets, a renowned
international expert in clinical research. His extensive experience contributed to the development and
implementation of the Clinical Pharmacy specialization program, as well as a number of
continuing education programs for clinical pharmacists.
In 2025, the Department was strengthened by prominent new academic staff members — Professors
Serhii Anatoliiovych Kutsenko and Anzhela Borysivna Olkhovska. Professor Kutsenko
actively develops the practical component of the educational process by expanding the Department’s partnerships
with pharmaceutical companies and industrial training bases. Professor Olkhovska is a
leading expert in pharmaceutical education and the author of numerous scientific publications and
methodological materials implemented in the practice of pharmacy and manufacturing organizations,
as well as in the educational process of pharmaceutical faculties in Ukraine.
Research Activities
The Department’s research activities are multidisciplinary and have a strong applied focus.
One of the key areas is the development of new medicinal products and improvement of the
technology of existing medicines. Particular attention is paid to herbal medicinal products
and cosmetics based on plant-derived raw materials.
The Department’s researchers investigate extraction processes, the impact of technological parameters
on the yield of biologically active substances, and the quality indicators of finished products.
The technologies, quality control methods, and experimental research findings developed by the Department
are actively implemented in industrial practice and used in the educational process.
The Department maintains close cooperation with pharmaceutical companies, research institutions,
and healthcare institutions, ensuring a strong connection between education, research, and
professional practice.
International Cooperation
The Department actively develops international research and educational partnerships. Its partners include
leading universities and research centers in Poland, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan,
Uzbekistan, Malaysia, and India. Joint academic mobility programs, participation in
international conferences, and research projects contribute to the Department’s integration into the
global pharmaceutical community.
Mission and Development of the Department
Today, the Department of General Pharmacy is a dynamic educational and research environment
that combines the rich traditions of pharmaceutical science with innovative approaches to
professional training. Our achievements are the result of dedicated work,
professionalism, and commitment to our mission.
We look to the future with confidence, expand our horizons of cooperation, develop new
educational programs, support young researchers, and strive to ensure that every learner who
