The Department of Ceramic Technology, Refractories, Glass, and Enamels regrets to announce that on March 25, 2023, Mykhailo Ivanovych Ryshchenko, an outstanding scholar and educator, our mentor and friend, passed away. Mykhailo Ivanovych, a graduate of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, dedicated his entire life to our alma mater. His path from student to head of the Department of Ceramic Technology, Refractories, Glass, and Enamels was illuminated by his love for people and the science of silicates. For 33 years, he led the department’s work, and for 16 years, he headed the Faculty of Technology of Inorganic Substances.

His broad scientific erudition, his exceptionally responsible and truly paternal attitude toward students, graduate students, and colleagues earned him respect, love, admiration, and gratitude. Among Mykhailo Ivanovych’s students are hundreds of engineers-technologists, dozens of candidates, and doctors of sciences. All of them became highly skilled professionals thanks to his knowledge, teaching talent, ability to solve complex problems, and caring and attentive attitude toward the new generation of specialists. Mykhailo Ivanovych was a model of honor, wisdom, kindness, and integrity for all of us.

The Department of Ceramic Technology, Refractories, Glass, and Enamels bows its head in sorrow and extends deep condolences to his wife, relatives, and loved ones.

M.I. Ryshchenko with his wife R.M. Ryshchenko
