About the department
Department of Business foreign of Language and Translation at NTU “KhPI” was founded in December 1998 to develop intensive programs study foreign languages that would allow graduates free have professional terminology and foreign language .
In 2000, the department received training license translators Bachelor’s level ( specializations ” Scientific and Technical Translation” and ” Effective communication in the field economy “), then was openly specialty “Translation” as a second degree at the correspondence department (for students with a diploma not lower than a bachelor’s degree in technical specialties ). In 2003, the department received training license specialists level ” specialist “, and in 2015 there were licensed Master ‘s level
Currently, the department is carrying out preparation bachelors and masters from specialization 035.041 “ Germanic languages and literature ( including translation ), the first one is English ” in the specialty 035 “ Philology ”.
Graduates receive Qualifications :
035.041 — Bachelor of Philology ( Germanic languages and literatures ( including translation ), first – English )
035.041 — Master philology ( Germanic languages and literature ( including translation ), the first one is English )
From 01.09.2024, the department is headed by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Oksana Mykolaivna Golikova .
First set students in the specialty “Translation” took place in 2000 , the first graduation was in 2004. Today we are over 25 years old , with teachers and staff – 20 classes student translators .
To date , preparation future translators carries out a select group of teachers : professional translators , methodologists , and native speakers languages , and scientists honored domestic and foreign degrees. All educational programs approved Ministry Education and Science of Ukraine .
Special we pay attention intensive learning foreign languages ( English , German ) and translation from the first semester to the last in the maximum volume .
Important educational subjects : basic foreign language ( English ), second foreign language language ( German ), business English language , history foreign literature , history main foreign languages , comparative lexicology , comparative stylistics , comparative grammar , theory and practice of translation, annotation and summarization , translator’s protocol and business etiquette , business translation speech , linguistics, and other studies .
In the industry scientific and technical translation : terminology translation informational technologies , grammar and lexical problems scientific and technical translation, features of patent translation documentation , editing scientific and technical translation, terminology translation practice mechanical engineering , terminology translation practice electronics and electrical engineering , terminology translation practice physics and chemistry , etc.
Students can choose the following specializations such as ” Scientific and Technical Translation” and ” Business Translation” documentation .
Student practice carried out in state bodies government and local self-government , consular institutions , international organizations , foreign banks and firms , international departments non-governmental structures, in departments advertising and public relations , in advertising and PR agencies, tourist companies , foreign and domestic hotels , public organizations , language and educational centers, and translation agencies.
Summary certification students :
- complex state exam (at bachelor’s level )
- protection graduation qualifying work (at the level of Master’s degree ). After end teaching A state diploma is issued .
Graduates provided qualification :
- Bachelor of Philology by specialization Germanic languages and literature ( including translation ), the first one is English
- Master Philology by specialization Germanic languages and literature ( including translation ), first – English
Graduates “Translation” majors are in demand as translators , technical editors ( technical writers ) in international consulting , computer , advertising companies ; on TV and radio ; in translation companies departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Internet and web-hosting companies ; they continue education in international business schools, engaged in scientific activities in the magistracy universities Europe and the USA.
Form of study – full-time and part-time . Term full- time education form : at the bachelor’s level – 3 years 10 months , master’s – 1 year , 4 months years. In the correspondence course form Study ( bachelor’s level ) – 3 years 10 months .
By condition for admission to full – time studies there is a certificate of general average education .
To enter the level master’s degree a bachelor’s degree and knowledge are required English and German languages at an advanced level .
By condition admission to part – time studies at the bachelor’s level is successful passage testing ( oral and written ).
For many years at the department are working teachers from United States of America and Germany ( taught disciplines ” Oral Practice”, ” Business English language “, ” Linguistics and Regional Studies “).
