On April 19, 2023, the founding meeting of the KHARKIV-OXFORD ASSOCIATION 2023, initiated by the Department of International Cooperation of the Kharkiv City Council, took place. At the founding meeting, the initial composition, charter and symbols of the association were discussed and approved. The leading teachers of the Department of Business Foreign Language and Translation of the National Institute of Translation and Interpretation of the National Technical University of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute “KhPI” also became members of the association : Prof. Badan A. Prof. Badan A.A., Assoc. Prof. Akop’yants N.M., Assoc. Prof. Golikova O.M. participate in the first remote founding meeting of the Kharkiv-Oxford Association, 2023.

Cooperation with the KHARKIV-OXFORD association has opened up opportunities for the department to organize conversation clubs organized by Oxford teachers and association members for our students, as well as a series of seminars on methodology by colleagues from Oxford. For example, on July 27-28, a guest series of professional development seminars was held by Oxford University (St. Clare’s College) lecturer Mark Bartram for NTU “KhPI” teachers . Mark Bartram has been working as a teacher, trainer and author of materials for over 30 years. He has taught and conducted trainings in Italy, the UK, Belgium and Hungary. He currently teaches preparatory courses at Oxford University and prepares teachers for the Cambridge DELTA qualification, as well as writes examination papers for Oxford exams.

Also, within the framework of the laboratory’s work, the Department of Business Foreign Language held its own seminars led by its speakers on topics mainly devoted to artificial intelligence in teaching foreign languages:

Also, starting from spring 2023 to the present time, as part of cooperation with the Kharkiv-Oxford Association, our students have the opportunity to regularly participate in conversation clubs with Oxford teachers . The opportunity to speak with British teachers is an invaluable advantage, which makes our students competitive specialists in the future.

Our students have also won a number of victories in Olympiads and competitions in recent years , which indicates a decent level of knowledge and high standards of training.

The annual 1st stage of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad in English and German is a center for talented and ambitious young people studying in our specialty. During the pandemic and martial law, the Olympiad was held remotely in Teams .

Another traditional form of involving talented young people in learning foreign languages has historically been the English Miniature Theater, which was modified into the Phonetic Competition during the pandemic and martial law in Teams . For example, on March 29, 2024, the Department of Business Foreign Language and Translation held a game class on the discipline “Practical English Course” as part of the use of gamification methods in the educational process. The class held a Phonetic Competition, during which students presented video fragments with their own voiceovers in English and editing. Both group and individual student projects were presented .
