About department

Банер 141 «Електроенергетика, електротехніка та електромеханіка»

Electrical devises are the heart of every modern power system — and the core of electrical engineering.

Mission

The Department of Electrical Apparatus is part of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Power Engineering, Electronics and Electromechanics at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTU “KhPI”).

We are the only department in Ukraine that specializes in training professionals in low- and medium-voltage electrical apparatus engineering.

Our mission is to provide high-quality education in the field of Electrical Engineering (Specialty 141 “Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics”). We prepare specialists ready to solve complex problems and drive innovation in energy systems and industry.

We offer:

  • Strong theoretical foundations,

  • Practical skills development,

  • Competencies in operation, management, engineering economics, commercial activities, and R&D,

  • Hands-on experience with modern tools for computer modeling, automated design, energy efficiency, and process automation using microcontrollers.

Graduates apply these skills in industrial production, power systems, transport, utilities, and consumer sectors.

Vision

Our vision is to become a recognized hub for education, research, and innovation in the field of electrical apparatus engineering.

We strive to achieve this through:

  • Advanced scientific research,

  • Strong partnerships with industry and academia,

  • Opportunities for students to grow professionally and realize their potential.

We actively contribute to the development of modern technologies, engineering practices, and approaches that support scientific, technical, and societal progress.

Education

The department offers full-cycle academic training for:

  • Bachelor’s degrees

  • Master’s degrees

  • PhDs (Doctor of Philosophy)

All programs are based on Specialty 141: Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics.

Our teaching approach combines:

  • Internationally recognized theoretical education,

  • Comprehensive computer-based training,

  • Practical experience using up-to-date laboratory equipment.

As a result, our graduates are well-prepared to work in diverse fields of science, engineering, and public service.

Graduate Careers

Our alumni work around the world — in Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Germany, Angola, Syria, Lebanon, and more — holding positions such as:

  • Battery Production Engineers at SAMSUNG (electric vehicle battery lines),

  • Aerospace Engineers at Progresstech-Ukraine,

  • Electrical Testing Specialists at KharkivEnergoPrilad LLC (high-voltage equipment and mobile labs),

  • Service Engineers at Pulsar Limited LLC (UPS systems, inverters, solar power),

  • Technical Experts at Dnipro Water Treatment Complex (Kharkivvodokanal),

  • Automation and Relay Protection Engineers at GRID-Engineering LLC (SCADA cabinets, telemechanics, protection systems).

Our graduates are leaders in developing, designing, and maintaining advanced electrical systems across a wide range of industries.
