The Department was created in 2002 as a part of Engineering and Physical Faculty of NTU “HPI” on the basis of the A.N. Podgorny Institute for Mechanical Engineering Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the purpose of the top-skills personnel training for the power and mechanical engineering which would possess both practical engineering and fundamental knowledge in the dynamics of liquids, gases and a heat-mass exchange.
In September, 2003 on the Gas-Hydromechanics and Heat-Mass Exchange Department the preparation of Bachelors of the Mechanics direction with speciality of “Hydroaerodynamics” was started. In June, 2007 the first graduation of Bachelors, in 2009 – the first graduation of Masters took place.
