On October 15th, 2012 three-year international project Leading and Managing Change in Higher Education (LaMANCHE) funded by the Tempus IV program of the European Commission was launched at NTU “KhPI”. La MANCHE aims at promoting the modernization of Higher Education in Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine and focuses on building governance and management capacities at the partner countries’ higher education institutions. Over a period of its existence the project will initiate and stimulate sustainable dialogue on higher education reforms among relevant interest groups in the respective countries. In addition, La MANCHE will empower students to become more actively involved in the decision making processes at institutional level.
Implementation of nine Work Packages (WPs) is scheduled during the project lifetime in pursuit of the project’s overall and specific objectives.
WP1 (Project Management) included elaboration and adoption of documents related to project management and monitoring, and organization of online conferences. Dr. Taras Danko, Associate Professor of Finance Department took part on behalf of our Univesity in La MANCHE 1-st partner meeting, which was held on International University College premises in Dobrich, Bulgaria. At the meeting La MANCHE project management and administration processes were explained, various cases on leadership and change management in the large organizations were discussed, and workshops in the three work packages were held.
WP2 (Analysis of Leadership and Management Skills and Models) included online focus groups and higher education institutions self-assessment completed at institutional level. Partner meeting on WP2 were held at University College Birmingham, UK on April 23 – 25, 2013. Anastasiya Makarenko, Senior Lecturer of Finance department, participated as a NTU “KhPI”representative in the workshops on elaboration of external assessment report on leadership and management skills and models at the partner countries’ higher education institutions and reaching excellence in higher education through effective educational leadership.
In the framework of WP5 of LaMANCHE project NTU “KhPI” team members Olena Reshetnyak, Taras Danko and Anastasiya Makarenko attended trainers’ training during the third partner meeting at Polytechnic Institute of Braganca, Portugal in October of 2013. Later, they organized three training events and public lecture on leadership and change management at NTU “KhPI” in the period of February-May, 2014. The topics of the training were the following:
- leadership in higher education: practical aspects of internationalization;
- managing change at the university: focus on mobility of professors and scientists;
- EU’s higher education modernization agenda and the role of educational leadership.
The target audience of the training mainly consisted of deans, deputy deans, heads of administrative departments, chairs and deputy chairs. 50 representatives of academic and administrative staff representing top and middle management of the University took part in the training events, while 35 students and administrators attended the public lecture.
