Classes in the discipline ‘Physical Education’ are taught to 1st-3rd year full-time students of all specialities.
The academic discipline ‘Physical Education’ is an integral part of education and professional training at the National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’.
The subject of study of the discipline ‘Physical Education’ is the process of improving the functions of the body, the formation of motor skills, related knowledge and the development of basic physical qualities of students, the formation of an understanding of the role of physical culture in the development of the individual and preparation for professional activity, the acquisition of experience in the creative use of physical culture, health and sports activities to achieve personal and professional goals.
The teaching objectives include: fostering in students the need to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities in sports and physical activities; developing the ability to apply the acquired values in the life of future specialists; maintaining and strengthening health; consistently developing the physical culture of specialists.
The main tasks are:
- developing an understanding of the role of physical culture in personal development and preparing specialists for professional activity, motivational and value-based attitudes towards physical culture, and establishing a healthy lifestyle;
- strengthening health indicators, developing and improving psychophysical abilities, qualities and characteristics of the individual, promoting the proper formation and comprehensive development of the body, maintaining a high level of psychophysical condition throughout the entire period of study;
- improving the functional and morphological capabilities of the body, preventing diseases and injuries;
- cultivating the need for physical improvement and self-education, regular physical exercise and sports
- acquiring theoretical knowledge, practical and methodological skills in specialisations in sports, physical activity, health training, sports training, physical rehabilitation;
- acquisition of a range of motor skills and abilities, ensuring general and professional-applied physical fitness, which determine the psychophysical readiness of graduates of higher education institutions for life and their chosen profession;
- acquisition of sports and technical skills and abilities to perform state or departmental tests and control standards at the level of requirements of educational and qualification characteristics and educational and professional programmes of the relevant specialist.
Competencies that the academic discipline of Physical Education aims to develop and nurture:
- The ability to preserve and multiply the moral, cultural, scientific values and achievements of society based on an understanding of the history and patterns of development of the subject area, its place in the general system of knowledge about nature and society and in the development of society, technology and technologies, to use various types and forms of physical activity for active recreation and a healthy lifestyle.
- The ability to apply knowledge in practical situations.
- The ability to work in a team.
- The ability to search for, process and analyse information from various sources.
- The ability to adapt and act in new situations.
