GOLD and WORLD RECORD at the European Powerlifting Championships!

On 21-28 September, the European Powerlifting Championships were held in Valletta (Malta) in the classic bench press and equipped bench press.

As part of the Ukrainian junior national team, Oleksandr Ponomarenko, a second-year student at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Computer Modelling, Applied Physics and Mathematics at NTU ‘KhPI’, took part in the European Championships.

Oleksandr, competing among juniors in the weight category up to 66 kg, won gold in the classic bench press with a result of 152.5 kg, and also won bronze as part of the junior team in the team competition!

In the bench press in equipment, Oleksandr lifted a barbell weighing 190.5 kg, which is a new world record in this category! This brought Oleksandr a gold medal in the equipment bench press, as well as the absolute championship of the European Championship! The Ukrainian team also managed to take first place!
