International activities

The department consistently implements a strategy of internationalisation of educational and scientific activities, actively expanding international contacts, developing academic mobility and engaging in joint research initiatives with leading European universities. Such cooperation is aimed at integrating the department into the European educational and scientific space, introducing modern methodological approaches and digital tools into the educational process, as well as increasing the competitiveness of students and scientific and pedagogical workers.

The department’s partnerships include a number of prestigious higher education institutions in Europe, in particular:

    • Linnaeus University (Sweden);
    • Université de Lyon (France);
    • Politechnika Gdańska (Poland);
    • Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Germany).

Cooperation with these universities is implemented through joint research projects, participation in international conferences, guest lectures, academic exchanges, and the development of joint educational courses in the field of digital humanities and philology.

The department’s lecturers are actively involved in international educational and scientific projects initiated by Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena with the support and funding of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In particular, in 2023, the project ‘Courses in Digital Ukrainian Philology’ (project ID 57678131) was implemented, and in 2024 — ‘Network for Ukrainian Studies: Courses in Digital Ukrainian Philology-2024’ (project ID 57723690). As part of these initiatives, modern online courses in digital Ukrainian philology were developed and implemented, ensuring the integration of digital text analysis tools, corpus linguistics and digital humanities into the educational process.

In 2024, the department joined the international project ‘Digital Humanities: Ensuring University Teaching in Times of Crisis’ (No. 15/343/2024 TFK, Ukraine Programme 2024; acronym — UkrDigiHum; 01.08.2023–31.12.2025), initiated by the University of Helsinki (Finland) with the support of the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI). Participation in this project is aimed at ensuring the sustainability of university teaching in times of crisis, developing the digital infrastructure of the educational process, and improving the digital competencies of teachers and students (https://www.ukr.uni-jena.de/uk/550/onlaynovi-kursi-z-cifrovoji-filologiji-vesna-2025 ).

In 2025, Associate Professor Maria Shvedova and Master’s student Arseniy Lukashevsky received grant support from CLARIN ERIC as part of the PressMint: Interoperable Corpora of Historical Newspapers project. Participation in this project contributes to the development of research in the field of corpus linguistics and digital processing of historical texts, as well as the integration of the department into the European research infrastructure for digital humanities (https://blogs.helsinki.fi/digihum-ua/en/).

Thus, the department’s international activities are systematic and strategic in nature, combining educational, scientific and project components. The expansion of international cooperation contributes to improving the quality of educational programmes, developing intercultural academic dialogue and forming a modern scientific environment open to innovation and global partnerships.
