The department “Automatics and control in technical systems” (the original name of the department “Automatics and telemechanics”) was separated into an independent unit in 1948 from the department “Electrical devices”. The first head of the department was Ph.D. associate professor F.A. Stupel. Later, the department was headed by Ph.D., associate professor O.N. Suetin. (1949-1974), Honored Worker of the Higher School of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Voronov V.G. (1974-1999). Ph.D., Kachanov P.O. (1999-2021). From 2021, Andriy Oleksandrovich Zuev was appointed acting head of the department.

Our graduates work at enterprises of instrument-making and machine-building complexes, computer centers, enterprises for the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment, financial and banking structures, in recreational and rehabilitation complexes and other medical institutions. For many years, the department maintains relations with universities from far and near abroad. The department has prepared masters and candidates of sciences for such countries as Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Vietnam, China, India, Afghanistan, Morocco, Colombia, Congo, Syria, Cuba, Peru. The department maintains ties with Hanoi Polytechnic University, Higher Technical School (Brno), Delhi Institute of Technology.
