Round Table Discussion Held at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport: “Student Research Group: From Idea to Innovation”

As part of the celebrations marking Science Day at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute,” the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport hosted an online round table discussion entitled “Student Research Group: From Idea to Innovation” on 19 May 2026. The event brought together supervisors and members of student research groups who are actively involved in the University’s research and innovation activities.

Student research groups are an important component of the educational and research environment of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport. They provide students with opportunities not only to deepen their professional knowledge, but also to develop and implement their own ideas, work on practical challenges, participate in research projects, and gain experience of teamwork.

The Department of Computer Modeling and Integrated Metal Forming Technologies currently hosts several student research groups, each with its own thematic focus:

  1. “Artistic Forging and Design of Forged Products” — supervised by Vitalii Leonidovych Chukhlib, Head of the Department.
  2. “Online Interest-Based Seminar at the Department of CMIT” — supervised by Vitalii Leonidovych Chukhlib, Head of the Department.
  3. “Modern Engineering and Innovative Technologies” — supervised by Serhii Oleksandrovych Hubskyi, Associate Professor of the Department.
  4. “Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Creativity in Process Modeling and Project Management” — supervised by Ihor Viktorovych Kasianenko, Associate Professor of the Department.

At the round table, the Department of Computer Modeling and Integrated Metal Forming Technologies was represented by Associate Professor Ihor Viktorovych Kasianenko, the supervisor of the student research group “Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Creativity in Process Modeling and Project Management.”

In his presentation, he outlined the group’s principal research and project areas, described its activities within the research projects carried out by the Department, and emphasized the active engagement of students in research, innovation, and project-based work.

Special attention was given to the opportunities that participation in student research groups creates for students—from developing and investigating an original idea to creating a practical project, presenting it, and supporting its further implementation.

Such meetings promote the exchange of experience between research-group supervisors and participants, raise the profile of student research, and help foster an environment in which student initiative develops into tangible research and innovation outcomes.
