WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL ECONOMIC THEORY

In 1950, the Department of Political Economy was established. Currently, in accordance with the requirements of the times, it is the Department of General Economic Theory. Our mission is to develop and disseminate deep and innovative knowledge in the field of economic theory, contributing to the formation of highly qualified and competent specialists. The department participates in the training of bachelors of all specialties of the Institute of Education and Science in Economics, Management and International Business and teaches them at a high level basic courses in economic theory in both Ukrainian and English languages. As part of the teaching of theoretical disciplines at the Department of General Economic Theory, students are provided with fundamental knowledge that forms their understanding of key principles and concepts in the field of economics.

In addition, the department trains students in the field of knowledge 29 International Relations with the specialty 291 «International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies», the educational program «International Relations and Public Communications» at the bachelor’s level of higher education.

The department teaches a block of fundamental educational components that form the basic categorical apparatus and worldview of modern students, namely:

• Economic theory
• Microeconomics
• Macroeconomics

The department also teaches educational components in specialty 291 «International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies»:

• Fundamentals of diplomatic activity, diplomatic protocol and etiquette

An important component of the department’s work is the organization of scientific conferences and seminars, which promotes the scientific exchange of information, the development of research and interaction between leading scientists and students.

The Department of General Economic Theory is the organizer of the annual International Scientific and Practical Conference “Slobozhansky Scientific Readings: Socio-Economic and Humanitarian-Legal Dimensions”, as well as the organizer of the annual section “Current Problems of International Relations and Economic Development of Ukraine in the Conditions of Globalization” of the International Scientific and Theoretical Conference of Students and Postgraduates “Ukraine and the World: Humanitarian and Technical Elite and Social Progress” (NTU “KhPI”).

The Department of General Economic Theory conducts fundamental scientific research on initiative scientific and research topics, as well as on economic topics; the functioning of student scientific circles is ensured.

The teachers of the department stimulate interest in scientific research, where students can use the knowledge gained to conduct their own research and analyze economic phenomena. This approach helps students not only to obtain theoretical knowledge, but also to develop critical thinking, analytical and research skills, which are important in the modern economic environment.

The department uses modern teaching methods, including the use of computer technologies, interactive methods and other innovative approaches. The department’s teachers are constantly developing educational materials, textbooks, and teaching aids that take into account modern trends and approaches to studying disciplines.

The ongoing development of cooperation with practitioners is an important aspect of the activities of the Department of General Economic Theory to ensure the practical use of educational skills and provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in real-world conditions.

These areas help the Department of General Economic Theory to provide high-quality training for students in fundamental aspects of economics, international relations, public communications, and regional studies, and contribute significantly to the development of economic science.

The Department of General Economic Theory of NTU “KhPI” is actively implementing innovative approaches to teaching and popularizing specialty 291 – International Relations, Public Communications, and Regional Studies. As part of these efforts, a unique project has been operating since January 2024 – “Diplomatic Ukraine”.

Project Objective:
• Informing applicants, students and the public about the importance of studying international relations and developing diplomatic competencies.
• Popularizing the specialty through educational and cultural initiatives.
• Raising awareness of the role of Ukraine in international relations and the modern challenges of globalization.

Forms of project implementation:
• Development and distribution of information materials on the department’s pages in social networks.
• Holding educational events, open lectures and seminars on the topics of diplomacy, international communications and regional security.
• Organization of scientific and practical conferences dedicated to topical issues of international relations and economic development of Ukraine in the context of globalization.
• Signing memorandums of cooperation with other educational institutions, diplomatic institutions and international organizations.
• Holding interactive meetings with diplomats, scientists and experts in the field of international relations.

The project is aimed at developing students’ skills in diplomatic thinking, critical analysis of international processes and effective communication in a global environment.
