Particular attention at the department is paid to teaching how to work on a computer when solving problems of analysis, synthesis and system design, and acquiring practical programming skills on microprocessor technology. Training in the specialty is conducted by 4 doctors and 15 candidates of technical sciences.
Teachers of the department have prepared 15 textbooks, teaching aids and more than 50 titles of methodological literature.
Students acquire practical skills using modern equipment in the laboratories of the department, during coursework and diploma design, during educational practices and work at enterprises and organizations: “Tyazhpromelektroproekt”, “Tyazhpromavtomatika”, “Elax”, “Strum”, “Constar”, ” M-service”, plant “Electrotyazhmash”, International Consortium “Energy Saving”, as well as during educational practices and internships at the University of Magdeburg. A number of foreign companies offer students internship opportunities abroad (LG, Wroclaw, Poland, Accer, Germany).
5 graduates of the department were invited by Siemens to work in Germany.
Students confirm their high level of preparation by participating in All-Ukrainian and regional Olympiads.
Senior students participate in the modernization of laboratory stands and the production of modern software-controlled electric drives developed at the department.
In accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, since 2004, the Department of AEMS has been participating in an experiment to implement the principles of the Bologna Declaration, which allows students to actively formulate individual study plans at NTU “KhPI”, taking into account their inclinations and employment prospects.
Students combine their studies with sports and participation in amateur performances.
Completion of training and receipt of a specialist, bachelor’s, master’s diploma is preceded by the defense of a thesis at a meeting of the State Examination Commission.
Graduates of the department are intended for work related to computerization, automation, research, development, production, installation, commissioning and operation of electromechanical, electrical systems and devices in enterprises, research, design, commissioning, utility organizations, as well as in any other structures , in all spheres of human activity.
Over 79 years, the department has trained about 5 thousand engineers – specialists in the field of electric drives – the main consumer of all generated electricity. Graduates of the department played an extremely important role in the electrification and industrialization of Ukraine, automation and mechanization of its leading industries, many of them became well-known scientists and specialists in various fields of science and technology, academicians, doctors and candidates of science, authors of important inventions, laureates of state prizes .
Among the graduates are Nikolai Vasilyevich Goldin, Minister of Construction of Heavy Industry Enterprises of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, Chief Engineer of the construction of the Bhilai Metallurgical Plant in India, awarded the 5th highest orders of the USSR, Mikhail Ivanovich Zhuchkov – Deputy Minister of Electrical Industry of the USSR, Director of KhEMZ during the period its active development, Nikolai Vasilyevich Kopytov is an outstanding electrical engineer, for many years the chief engineer of the Tyazhpromelektroproekt Institute.
The versatility inherent in the specialty contributes to the formation of systematicity, and the technical nature – concreteness of thinking, thanks to which many of our graduates have achieved success in any field where life has placed them: A. Inin (writer), V. Fokin and V. Kharchenko (Mosfilm film directors) , V. Yasinsky and A. Zhurin (journalists), Y. Belichenko (poet), Y. Krendel (chief director of the drama theater), A. Kevorkyan (technical director of the publishing house “Around Color”), O. Zemlyakov, A. Latyshev , P. Moiseenko (heads of financial structures). Many graduates of the department have become successful businessmen.
Graduates of the department are in great demand in the labor market. Firms and organizations begin inviting our graduates to work from the 4th to 5th year.
