There’s not much time left before the application deadline. If you’ve already chosen your field but are still looking for a program that truly matches your goals, this guide will help you navigate the options, reduce stress, and take a confident step toward your dream university.
- Start with the educational program, not the specialty
A specialty is just a general framework, while an educational program is what you will actually study. Within one specialty, there can be very different programs with different content. Choose the one that aligns with your goals and interests.
Department websites usually provide detailed descriptions of their programs. For example, ours include “Intelligent Data Analysis” and “Artificial Intelligence”. There, you can explore the courses, skills, and curriculum roadmap. This helps you understand what you will be doing in class and what career opportunities await you after graduation.
- Check the program’s accreditation
This is crucial. If a program is not accredited, there may be risks such as transfers, changes in conditions, or instability.
Go to the “Educational Program” document on the department’s website and check how many years the license is valid for. At our department, for instance, all programs are fully accredited.
- Look into who teaches and how the learning process is organized
Especially in IT fields, it’s very important that educators are not only theorists but also practitioners. Most of our IT educators are professionals who also work in real IT companies. This means you receive first-hand knowledge, can complete internships on real projects, and even secure employment while still studying.
Another important aspect to consider is whether the program offers not just “learning” but also doing – working on real tasks, projects, and with real companies.
At our department, this is an integral part of the educational process: project-based learning, practice on real cases, and the opportunity to study certain IT disciplines directly at IT companies as part of a dual education system.
- Is there a connection with the job market?
The best education is not only about knowledge and skills – it’s also about connections. We have partnerships with companies, dual education opportunities, project-based learning, and internships. Industry experts conduct classes and workshops, help design educational programs, and participate in thesis defenses. All of this significantly increases your chances of landing your first job. - What about the graduates?
Take a look at who has graduated from the department you’re considering. Where do they work and in what positions? Our graduates are employed at Meta, Google, Amazon, and leading Ukrainian and international companies. These are real success stories that you can explore on our website and social media pages.
You can also check the topics of students’ diploma and project work on the website – this will help you understand how interesting these fields are to you in practice.
- Support, student life, and adaptation
Education isn’t only about lectures and classes. A student’s success also depends on what happens outside the academic modules – especially during the first year. That’s why we place special emphasis on support and community.
At our department:
- there are student mentors – senior students who help freshmen adapt, answer all questions, and provide academic and personal support.
- hackathons, competitions, and interdisciplinary projects are regularly organized.
- we hold tournaments, educational camps, and informal meet-ups.
This creates an active community where you can not only grow comfortably but also build valuable professional connections – including international ones.
- Academic mobility
The opportunity to study abroad is another important criterion. Within academic mobility programs, students can participate in exchanges, internships, and studies at foreign universities. This provides not only experience but also the chance to broaden your horizons, earn an international degree, or get involved in international projects.
At our department, we offer programs such as:
- exchanges with universities in Germany, Israel, and other countries (Erasmus+);
- double degree programs (for example, with Magdeburg University);
- participation in international research projects.
Check whether the program you’re interested in offers such opportunities. This can be a crucial step toward building an international career.
- How not to miss out on priorities?
Once you’ve chosen your programs, it’s essential to set your priorities correctly. This is very important, as admission is based on these priorities. After submitting your application, changes are not possible.
Things to consider:
- Your score (real chances of admission)
- Previous competition for the program
- Your interests and career prospects
- Study format
