Purpose
The activities of the Department of Ukrainian Language of the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” are aimed at developing in future specialists the skills and abilities of perfect command of the Ukrainian literary language in the professional sphere and optimal speech behavior in professional activities.
Main
The Department of Ukrainian Language of the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” has a long history. It was founded in 1954. The department employs teachers who have academic degrees and titles, which guarantees a high level of professionalism and competence.
The peculiarity of the department’s activities is that the Ukrainian language is taught not only to citizens of Ukraine, but also to foreign students. Such work requires significant attention and an individual approach.
The department is headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Sciences Cherniavska Svitlana Mykolaivna.
The activities of the Department of Ukrainian Language are not limited to teaching the relevant disciplines. The staff is actively engaged in scientific activity, as evidenced by numerous scientific works and publications not only in professional publications, but also in publications indexed in international scientometric databases. Also, the teachers of the department develop methodological support for the disciplines they teach, constantly create and update textbooks and teaching aids, terminological dictionaries, etc. Taking into account the peculiarities of the educational process in modern conditions, scientific and pedagogical workers have provided online teaching of disciplines, distance courses have been created.
The teachers take an active part in international and all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences and seminars, organize the first stages of student Olympiads and competitions in the Ukrainian language, as well as prepare students for the next stages. In 2024, the department created a scientific circle “Language Training of a Specialist”, the purpose of which is to deepen the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of students.
The main areas of scientific activity of the department:
- methodological: teaching languages in technical institutions of higher education;
- historical: history of the introduction of the Ukrainian language into education;
- terminological: research of industry terminological systems;
- literary: research of the work of Ukrainian and foreign writers;
- lexicographic: study and creation of dictionaries of various types.
Every year, the Department of the Ukrainian Language organizes the participation of all interested teachers and students of the university in the “All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity”.
One of the important aspects of the department’s activities is the participation of employees in conducting entrance exams in the Ukrainian language for future students of our university.
The department conducts active international cooperation with leading higher education institutions of the Republic of Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, France and other countries.
Today, a specialist in any field must have a high level of command of the Ukrainian literary language. This is an important component of creating a conscious, democratic society. Professional communication skills reflect the general culture of a specialist, so they are mandatory for successful activity. This is the level of training that the Department of the Ukrainian Language of NTU “KhPI” is trying to provide.
