Every year, on the third Thursday of May, Ukraine celebrates World Embroidery Day. In 2025, Embroidery Day will be celebrated on May 15.
This holiday was first celebrated in 2006, when a student of Chernivtsi National University invited her classmates to come to class in embroidered shirts. The initiative was supported by both teachers and students of the entire educational institution. For several years, the holiday was celebrated only within the walls of the university, and then this tradition spread to other cities of Ukraine.
Embroidery Day is a holiday dedicated to the preservation of the traditions of Ukrainian national clothing. For Ukrainians, embroidery is a true national shrine, symbolizing beauty, strength, happy fate and family memory.
