History of the department

The Department of Ukrainian Language began its history in 1954. With the adoption of the Law “On Languages ​​in the Ukrainian SSR” in 1989 and with the gaining of independence by Ukraine, the department began to teach new courses: “Ukrainian Language” and “Business Ukrainian Language”. For many years, the department provided teaching of the disciplines “Introduction to Linguistics”, “Fundamentals of Applied Linguistics”, “Modern Ukrainian Literature” and “Computer Translation Systems” for students of social and humanitarian specialties. Today, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department teach the disciplines “Ukrainian Language (Professional Orientation)” and “Business Ukrainian Language and Professional Communication” for Ukrainian students of various specialties, and for foreign students – the disciplines “Language of Professional Instruction (Ukrainian)” and “Ukrainian as a Foreign Language”.

The teachers of the department are the authors of many scientific works that have been published in professional publications and publications included in international scientometric databases. Also, the staff develops methodological support for the disciplines they teach, constantly creates and updates textbooks and teaching aids, terminological dictionaries, etc. Taking into account the peculiarities of the educational process in modern conditions, scientific and pedagogical workers have provided online teaching of disciplines, and distance courses have been created.

The department is headed by Candidate of Science, Associate Professor Cherniavska Svitlana Mykolaivna.

 

 

 

 

 

For a long time, the department organized international scientific and practical conferences “Modern Problems of Lexicography”, “Methodology of Language Teaching”, annual international lexicographic seminars, was responsible for the work of the section “Language Training of a Specialist” of the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Theoretical Conference of Students and Postgraduates “Ukraine and the World”. Today, teachers annually organize the first stages of the International Ukrainian Language Competition named after Petro Yatsyk, the International Language and Literary Competition of Schoolchildren and Student Youth named after Taras Shevchenko and the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the Ukrainian Language. In 2024, a scientific circle was created at the department, the purpose of which is to deepen the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of students.

Every year, teaching staff participate in the meeting of the section “International Education” of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Information Technologies: Science, Engineering, Technology, Education, Health (MicroCAD)”, and are also participants in other international and all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences and seminars.

The department’s staff ensures the conduct of entrance exams in the Ukrainian language for future students of our university, and annually organizes the participation of all interested teachers and students of the university in the “All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity”.

Active international cooperation is carried out with leading higher education institutions of the Republic of Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, France and other countries.
