Doctor of Philosophy (Latin: Philosophiæ Doctor, Ph.D., sometimes PhD or DPhil) is the first academic degree in most countries around the world. The qualification work of the applicant is a doctoral dissertation (Ph.D. thesis).
The specific requirements for obtaining this degree vary from country to country, but the main requirement is to conduct scientific academic research and publish its results in peer-reviewed journals. In many countries, to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy degree, it is necessary to defend one’s scientific work: a project, research thesis, or dissertation. The defense consists of justifying the significance of this scientific work to the scientific community, its relevance and compliance with academic integrity, demonstrating its proper formatting and the possibility of using it to solve a specific problem.
In Ukraine, it is awarded in a specific specialty, formulated for a person as “Doctor of Philosophy in [name of specialty].” To obtain this academic degree, a person must complete postgraduate studies and defend a dissertation before a specialized academic council.
The department provides training in the educational and scientific program of the third scientific and educational level – Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the following specialty:
G10 – Metallurgy. Field of knowledge G – Engineering, manufacturing, and construction. Qualification: Doctor of Philosophy in Metallurgy. 48 ECTS credits, duration of study: 4 years.
Subjects of study and activities – theoretical, methodological, and applied research in the field of metallurgy, in particular casting production processes; design, testing, and operation of casting production equipment, as well as materials and products of metallurgical production; teaching of specialized disciplines in higher education institutions.
