The beginning of the new academic year has once again marked a successful start for our Department. The Department is well known for providing high-quality, highly professional training for highly qualified specialists. In September 2026, two of our PhD students defended their dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Anton Balaiev and Pavlo Korekian presented their doctoral dissertations for defense. Both researchers entered the postgraduate program at NTU “KhPI” in the extremely challenging year of 2022. Despite the difficult circumstances, they successfully completed their studies, prepared their dissertations, and are now working at various educational and industrial institutions, where they apply the knowledge they acquired during their studies.
Anton Balaiev presented his dissertation entitled “Physicochemical Foundations of Thermal Insulation Technology Based on a Bicomponent Aluminosilicate Composition”, under the supervision of Yaroslav Mykolaiovych Pitak, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor. He currently works as the Director of Tradeisol LLC in Kryvyi Rih, a company implementing high-performance projects aimed at achieving meaningful improvements and positive change.
PhD student Pavlo Korekian defended his dissertation entitled “Dolomite Binders and Materials Based on Them Using Domestic Raw Materials”, under the supervision of Viktoriia Viktorivna Taranenkova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor. His research addresses the production of a high-performance magnesia binder and the development of various new construction materials based on it, including composites, bricks, glass-dolomite sheets, and bioreceptive concrete.
Pavlo is a graduate of our Department. Even during his student years, he was actively involved in scientific research, developed startup projects, and participated in international and national competitions in student research. In particular, in 2019, together with Iryna Tymoshenko, he won the ICAMES International Competition for Students of Engineering Disciplines, held at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Türkiye. He will continue his research work at the Department of Ceramic, Refractory, Glass, and Enamel Technologies of NTU “KhPI.”
All defenses were successfully completed in the presence of members of the specialized academic council, colleagues, and friends of the candidates, who attended the presentations. The reviewers and opponents asked questions, which the candidates answered.
Following the results of the open vote, the one-time specialized academic councils unanimously decided to award both candidates the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Field of Knowledge 16 — “Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering.” They congratulated the candidates on their successful dissertation defenses and wished them continued scientific and creative success.
