KHARKIV – October 23, 2025. The National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTU “KhPI”) continued its series of career-orientation events for school students. This time, pupils from schools of the Nemyshlyanskyi district of Kharkiv took part in the Engineering Quest organized by the Educational and Scientific Institute of Power Engineering, Electronics and Electromechanics (EEE). One of the key roles in the event was played by the Department of Electric Transport and Diesel Locomotive Engineering (ETT), which presented to future applicants the fascinating world of modern transport.
🎯 Interactive Introduction to Engineering
The goal of the event was to introduce schoolchildren to the specializations offered by the Institute of EEE in an interactive format. The ETT Department prepared engaging tasks and experiments that demonstrated the principles of electric transport and promising technologies in this field.
“Our task was to show that engineering is not only challenging but also very exciting. We wanted to spark the children’s curiosity for technology and show how the fundamental laws of physics come to life in real mechanisms,” said an associate professor of the ETT Department.
🔧 A Workshop of Future Innovations
During the quest, representatives of the ETT Department organized a special area where students could:
- Learn about the operating principles of modern transport systems
- Discover the department’s developments in hydrogen technologies
- See models and demonstration units illustrating the evolution of transport
- Take part in hands-on experiments and solve technical challenges
“The experiment with magnetic levitation impressed me the most — it looks like magic, but in fact it’s physics,” shared an 8th-grade student from School №128 of the Nemyshlyanskyi district.
🏆 Recognition and Awards
At the end of the quest, the winning teams received valuable gifts and commemorative souvenirs from the organizers. The awards were presented by representatives of the EEE Institute administration.
“It is important not only to determine the winners but also to motivate all participants to continue studying technical sciences. We see among these children the future students of our institute,” noted a member of the organizing committee.
📈 A Strategy for Talent Development
This event became part of NTU “KhPI’s” systematic effort to introduce schoolchildren to engineering disciplines. The ETT Department, which has a history of more than 130 years, actively participates in such initiatives, recognizing the importance of early career guidance.
“We aim to show young people that railway transport today is a high-tech industry that requires qualified specialists. Our department trains professionals capable of working with the most advanced technologies — from electric trains to hydrogen fuel cells,” added an ETT Department lecturer.
