On December 5, 2025, the Department of Electric Transport and Diesel Locomotive Engineering of the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” (NTU “KhPI”) held another online meeting with students of the Poltava Vocational Lyceum of Transport — an event that has already become a strong and meaningful tradition. These annual sessions play a vital role in career guidance, forming a bridge between vocational secondary education and higher education, and they always proceed in a lively, engaging atmosphere.
The lyceum students, who have already made a conscious choice in favor of the transport sector (the institution has a long history and a reputation as the former “Railway Lyceum”), listen to the speakers with great interest, actively ask questions, and explore the newest trends, innovations, and challenges in railway transport. For them, this is a unique opportunity to get acquainted in advance with the alma mater of their potential professional future.
This time, the meeting was, as always, productive and content-rich. The Head of the Department, Professor Borys Liubarskyi, opened the event with an inspiring story about the department’s long and distinguished history—one of the leading in Ukraine. He presented a comprehensive overview of its current activities: cutting-edge research, engineering developments, international projects, and strong partnerships with industry. Future development plans were also highlighted. The professor emphasized that despite online teaching necessitated by wartime conditions in Ukraine, the quality of the educational process remains consistently high, and the department continues to train highly demanded specialists.
A valuable practical part of the session was the presentation of preliminary admission rules for NTU “KhPI” in 2026. Prospective applicants received detailed explanations of the main stages, deadlines, and specific features of the upcoming admission campaign—helping them prepare more effectively in advance.
The most engaging segment for the audience was the presentation of the department’s academic programs and specializations. Students received a clear overview of the professions the department trains, core subjects studied by students, active research areas (from traction energy efficiency to digital technologies in traffic control), and career opportunities available to graduates.
The meeting concluded on an especially vibrant note with a themed Kahoot quiz dedicated to railway engineering, history, and fascinating railway facts. The interactive format enabled students to test their knowledge in real time. The winner of this exciting challenge received a memorable prize from the department.
The Department of Electric Transport and Diesel Locomotive Engineering of NTU “KhPI” expresses its sincere gratitude to the administration of the Poltava Vocational Lyceum of Transport—particularly to Deputy Director for Academic Affairs Yevhen Danilets and the department’s long-standing friend Petro Sentiai—for their excellent organization of the event and their shared commitment to preparing new generations of skilled transport specialists for Ukraine. These meetings not only inform but also inspire, preserving the most valuable tradition: passing knowledge and experience from educators to future engineers.
