Expanding International Horizons: Successful Defense by the First Master’s Student from Azerbaijan at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection
In December 2025, a landmark event took place at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection of NTU “KhPI” – the successful defense of the master’s thesis by our first graduate student from Azerbaijan, Natig Sardar oglu Mammadov. Associate Professor T.S. Tykhomyrova acted as the scientific supervisor of the work.
It is worth noting the candidate’s high level of preparation and motivation. The educational process in the master’s program was conducted exclusively in English. Natig proved to be an extremely diligent student who regularly attended all lectures and practical classes. Thanks to his excellent command of the English language, mastering complex engineering and environmental disciplines did not cause him any difficulties. This allowed him to absorb the material as effectively as possible and focus on deep scientific research.
The topic of the master’s thesis was directly related to the graduate’s homeland, particularly concerning the geographical and environmental features of the region. Azerbaijan is a country with a great history, rich culture, and incredibly beautiful landscapes. Today, this nation demonstrates rapid economic development and, crucially, pays great attention to solving accumulated environmental problems, protecting the environment, and implementing the principles of sustainable development. Natig’s master’s research has become a significant contribution to analyzing these urgent challenges.
The Head of the State Examination Commission, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.V. Lebedev, highly praised the presented master’s thesis. He noted its high scientific and practical level, the relevance of the chosen topic, and the thoroughness of the conducted research.
