Regional competition of student research papers

🔍 At the origins of machine translation: Anna Savosten’s scientific success at the regional level

Education at the Department of Intelligent Computer Systems (ICS) has always been based on a combination of fundamental theory and advanced technologies. The achievements of our students in the early 2010s laid a solid foundation for modern developments in the field of artificial intelligence. 🤖📚

In May 2010, the final stage of the Regional competition of student research papers took place, where the research of a representative of our department received a high evaluation from the expert commission:

🥉 III place — Anna Savosten (group IF-87)

The topic of her work — ‘Morphological Analysis in Modern Machine Translation Systems’ — was extremely relevant and complex at the time. Anna researched algorithms that allow computers to understand the structure of words, which is critical for creating high-quality translation systems.

Scientific supervision: A special role in the preparation of the winner was played by her scientific supervisor — then an associate professor of the department, and now Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Nina Khairova. Under her guidance, a clear research methodology was developed and significant scientific results were obtained.

Today, when we use sophisticated neural translators, it is important to remember that the path to them began with such in-depth student research into morphology and syntax.

We congratulate Anna and her supervisor on this victory, which has become part of the scientific history of our department! ✨🏆
