NTU ‘KhPI’ and UCU join forces: Cooperation for the future of digital Ukrainian philology

The National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’ and the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv) have officially cemented their partnership by signing a memorandum of cooperation. This event was a logical continuation of the joint work that has been ongoing since 2023, in particular within the framework of the international project ‘Network for Ukrainian Studies: Courses in Digital Ukrainian Philology’.

The cooperation is based on our Department of Intelligent Computer Systems (NTU ‘KhPI’) and the Department of Philology (UCU).

The main focus is on training a new generation of philologists capable of working at the intersection of linguistics and high technologies (NLP).

Areas of joint activity for 2025-2026:

  • International integration: Joint participation in the University of Helsinki project ‘Digital Humanities: Ensuring university teaching in times of crisis’.
  • Scientific incubators: Creation of centres for the development of the latest natural language processing (NLP) technologies for the Ukrainian language.
  • Digital resources: Development of linguistic corpora (in particular, participation in the GRAK project) to increase the resourcefulness of our language in the digital space.
  • Student science: Organisation of an inter-university club on corpus linguistics and exchange of experience through guest lectures.

University rectors Yevhen Sokol and Taras Dobko emphasised that such synergy between technical and humanitarian bases will enable the training of specialists capable of responding to the challenges of wartime and actively participating in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
