The head of the Ukrainian language department of NTU “KhPI” has died.
On June 2, 2026, at the age of 56, the life of the candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, head of the Ukrainian language department of NTU “KhPI” Cherniavska Svitlana was cut short. She was an outstanding scientist in the field of Ukrainian philology, Ukrainian studies, a talented teacher, organizer and leader.
More than 30 years of her life were devoted to Kharkiv Polytechnic. Svitlana Mykolayivna began her career back in 1993, taking the position of a teacher after graduating from the Faculty of Philology of Kharkiv State University. In 2004, she received the degree of candidate of historical sciences, and in 2017 she became the head of the Ukrainian language department.
She is the author of more than 80 scientific publications in domestic and foreign publications, manuals and educational and methodological publications.
Svitlana Mykolayivna, holding the position of head of the department, enjoyed great authority and respect, was able to rally the team to fulfill the tasks set and overcome the challenges of today. She was an excellent organizer, an open, responsive and sincere person, ready to help everyone. Her hard work became the key to the successful development of the department in this difficult time.
Under her leadership, scientific and pedagogical workers developed and completely updated the educational and methodological support of the disciplines assigned to the department, numerous manuals and educational and methodological publications were published. The participation of NTU “KhPI” students in the annual All-Ukrainian scientific and theoretical conference “Ukraine and the World: Humanitarian and Technical Elite and Social Progress” (language training) was also ensured, in the I and II stages of Ukrainian language competitions, events were organized and held on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, etc.
The Rectorate of NTU “KhPI”, the Directorate of the National Institute of International Education, and the staff of the Department of the Ukrainian Language express their sincere condolences to the family of S.M. Cherniavska.
