International activity of the Department can be represented mostly through participation of its staff in international conferences and through practical studies of the research workers at foreign universities. Also it should be noted that Prof. Yu. Mikhlin is the member of editorial staff of international journals: Nonlinear Dynamics, Mathematical Problems in Engineering та Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science. Also he is the member of American Mathematical Society, German Society of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) and EUROMECH Society.
The Department of Applied Mathematics is one of the co-founders and organizers of the international conference series “Nonlinear Dynamics“. All four conferences (in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013) were organized with the great help of the staff of the Department (Prof. Yu. Mikhlin, Prof. L.Kurpa, Assoc. Prof. G.Timchenko, Assoc. Prof. O. Mazur, Assoc. Prof. G.Rudnyeva, Assistant Prof. N. Perepelkin, Senior Engineer V. Kuznetsov etc.). Prof. Yu. Mikhlin and Prof. L. Kurpa are the members of the scientific committee of the conference series.

The researchers of the Department present the results of their investigations at well-known international conferences: European Nonlinear Dynamics Conference (ENOC) conference series; series of conferences “International Conference on Dynamical Systems – Theory and Applications”; series of conferences “International Conference on Localization, Energy Transfer and Nonlinear Normal Modes in Mechanics and Physics”; various symposiums and colloquiums under the aegis of EUROMECH и IUTAM; series of conferences “Mathematical Methods in Technics and Technology (MMTT)”; series of conferences “Nonlinear Dynamics” and others. Since 2010 more than 70 papers were published in proceedings of scientific conferences.
Also, some of the researchers of the Department took part in international research projects. Among them, Assoc. Prof. V. Burlayenko took part in the scientific research funded by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and INTAS at Martin-Luther-Universitat Halle-Wittenberg (Halle, Germany) in 2000 and 2002-2003, by German Research Foundation at Otto-von-Guericke Magdeburg University (Magdeburg, Germany) in 2015 and by Erasmus Mundus program at University of Southampton (Southampton, England) in 2015-2016. Also, he participated in two international research programs at Lublin University of Technology in 2011-2013.
Assoc. Prof. L. Dzyubak participated in the international research program at the Department of Automatics and Biomechanics at Lodz University of Technology in 2003 and University of Southampton (Southampton, England) in 2015-2016.
From 2017 to 2019, Assoc. Prof. N.V. Perepelkin conducted research at the Engineering School of Cardiff University, Cardiff, UK within the project “Cross-Disciplinary Approaches to Evaluation of the Elastic and Adhesive Properties of Micro / Nanothick Objects” funded by the Sêr Cymru ІI funding program, which is a suite of schemes part funded by the Welsh Government and the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).
Since 2022 Assoc. Prof. K.I. Lyubitska has been conducting research at the Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Science Education of Mid-Sweden University, Sundsvall, Sweden, as part of the project NeoPulp. This research profile aims to establish a pioneering research profile focused on understanding fiber behavior during pulping and papermaking processes.
In 2024, we successfully secured the Erasmus+ KA1 grant.
