The Department of “Computer Engineering and Programming” (CEP) was organized in 1961 as the Department of “Mathematical and Calculating Instruments and Devices” (MCID), then it was called “Electronic Computers” and only after that it found its third name – CEP . The department of MSRPU was organized on the basis of the department “Electrical devices”.
A great role in the creation of the new department was played by an excellent scientist and teacher, the former head of the department “Electrical Apparatus” Professor Vashura Boris Fedorovich, who was described by his staff as a very kind and noble person.
The first head of MCID department was Dr. Victor Vasiliev (1961 – 1962 and 1965 – 1974), second head of the department was Vitaly Zverev (from 1962 to 1964), the third head of the department was Felix Domnin (from 1974 to 2014), fourth head of the department was Serhii Semenov (from 2014 to 2021).

The first graduation – 24 engineers trained by the department, took place in 1964. Since then, the department has trained about 5 thousand specialists, including more than 400 for 55 countries of the world.

From 2021 to the present, the head of the department is Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences Oleksandr Zakovorotnyi.
