The department was founded in 1950 on the initiative of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences A.P. Roginsky. In different years, outstanding teachers worked at the department: M.I. Akimova, A.G. Bela, G.O. Valina, T.K. Vertysheva, R.G. Eliseeva, D.P. Salionovych. From 1986 to 2018, the head of the department was L.V. Skrypnychenko. Currently, the department is headed by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Tetiana Honcharenko.
Today, the teaching staff includes 32 teachers, including 18 associate professors and 11 senior lecturers. Nine teachers have the scientific degree of candidate of sciences: 5 – pedagogical, 2 – economic, 1 – philological, and 1 – technical sciences.
Teachers of the department teach foreign language to future specialists of various engineering fields: programmers and system analysts, mechanical and electrical engineers, chemists and production technologists, young scientists and researchers.
The department provides training for students of 1-4 courses (bachelor’s degrees) in English, German and French within the discipline “Foreign language for special purposes”, masters of 5-6 courses – “Foreign language for academic purposes”, as well as postgraduate students.
