About the department
The Department of Computer Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling (currently the Department of Computer Mathematics and Data Analysis) was founded in 2002 on the basis of the Departments of Higher Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, System Analysis and Management.
The department provides training for bachelors and masters in the field of applied and computer mathematics, mathematical methods of computer technology, as well as teaching mathematical disciplines for a number of faculties of NTU “KhPI.” methods, information technologies and software for computer modeling of complex systems, data analysis, management and decision-making in engineering, economics and finance.
At the KMAD department, a pilot project is being implemented to develop, test and implement an innovative educational system based on project based learning technologies, inquire learning, P2P (peer-to-peer) peer-to-peer learning and gamification of the educational process within the framework of CDIO Iinitiative Global Engineering Education Reform Initiative. The project is being implemented with the support of Vasily Khmelnitsky’s .
The Department of KMAD became a member of the initiative group for the creation of the Ukrainian Association on DataScience, in whose tasks an important place is occupied by the creation of the Ukrainian educational program in the field of data science (“DataScience”) – one of the most modern and demanded areas of computer science. The program is being developed on the basis and with the support of the European project EDISON http://edison-project.eu, aimed at creating the DataScientist profession for European industry and applied research.
The department employs 25 teachers, including 4 professors, 5 doctors of sciences, 13 associate professors, 12 candidates of sciences.
Among the students of the department there are winners and prize-winners of All-Ukrainian and International Olympiads and championships in mathematics, computer science and programming, scholarships of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Graduates of the department work in higher educational institutions, research and production enterprises of the IT industry in such well-known IT companies as Google, Facebook, Amazon, IBM, Samsung Electronics, NixSolutions, Greed Dynamics, GlobalLogic, AltSoft, Cloud Works, Insart, RingLab, SigmaSoftware, etc.
2004 to 2021 the chair of the KMAD was headed by the Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine, member of the National Committee of Ukraine for Automatic Control, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Leonid Mikhailovich Lyubchik.
Since 2021, the Department of Computer Mathematics and Data Analysis has been headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor of NTU “KhPI” Akhiezer Elena Borisovna.
