Focus of scientific interests – mathematical modelling with the help of new information operators, solving problems of computed tomography, including the essential consideration of the heterogeneous internal structure of the object being restored, development of the theory of discontinuous function approximation.

Head of the Department since February 2022. Doctor of Science in Physics and Mathematics.

In 2000, Yulia Ihorivna graduated with honours from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and received a degree in mathematics, teacher of mathematics and computer science. Since 2006, she has been working at the Department of Higher Mathematics. She participates in the implementation of state budget and contractual research works in the field of mathematical modelling in computed tomography. In 2007, she defended her thesis on “Mathematical modelling in computed tomography using function interleaving”.

In 2008, she won the Third Regional Competition “The Best Young Scientist of Kharkiv Region” in the nomination “Mathematics and Computer Science”. In 2009 and 2012, she received grants from the President of Ukraine to support the research of young scientists.

She has more than 100 publications, including 1 monograph, 37 articles in Ukrainian scientific journals, 3 patents, 5 reports at international congresses (Norway, China, England, Poland), 2 textbooks and 5 teaching aids.

Yulia Pershyna is actively involved in organisational, methodological and scientific work. Laureate of the Cabinet of Ministers Award for Special Achievements of Youth in the Development of Ukraine (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of 15 June 2011, No. 536-r). Scholar of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for young scientists for 2012-2013 (Resolution No. 5 of the Presidium of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine in Science and Technology of 07 November 2011). Diploma of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for the series of works “Solving three-dimensional and four-dimensional problems of computed tomography using interleaving and mixed approximation operators” (Resolution of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine No. 36 of 15.02.2012).

Since 2012 – Associate Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics. In 2015, she defended her doctoral thesis. Acknowledgement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2016). International grant for participation in the 7th European Congress of Mathematics, July 18 – 22, 2016 (Berlin, 2016). Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2018). International grant to participate in the International Congress of Mathematicians – ICM2018, held at Riocentro Convention Centre, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, from August 1-9, 2018. Winner of the competition “Higher School of Kharkiv Region – the Best Names” in the nomination “Teacher of Fundamental Disciplines” (2018). International grant to participate in the 8th European Congress of Mathematics, July 5-11, 2020 (Portorož, Slovenia, 2020).

Since 2023 – Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics.

His research area is the development of new methods for solving three-dimensional and four-dimensional computed tomography problems, the creation of a theory of approximation of discontinuous functions by discontinuous splines and its application to mathematical modelling in computed tomography.
