Department of

Mathematical modeling and intelligent computing in engineering

The history of the department begins in 1930, when in our university, with the creation of the specialty “Dynamics and strength of machines”, which trained specialists of a fundamentally new type, synthesizing deep physical and mathematical training and the skills of a practical engineer. The founders of the specialty were outstanding scientists: Academicians A. F. Joffe, I. V. Obreimov, K. D. Synelnikov, professor I. M. Babakov.

The well-known scientific school of machine dynamics and strength provides every student with great opportunities to prove themselves scientifically. Working alongside scientists, the student acquires fundamental knowledge that will allow him to solve problems in almost any field of science and technology. This enables our specialists to feel confident in the midst of new, rapidly changing technology, to be true creators at any workplace. A special feature of our graduates is that they perfectly master information technologies, develop algorithms for any complex processes, program flawlessly, and know how to use CAD. At the end of the fifties, the department was one of the first to introduce electronic computers and programming methods into teaching and research. In accordance with Order No. 329 of OD dated 07.11.2022 (protocol No. 8 dated 28.10.2022), the Scientific Council of NTU “KhPI” adopted a decision on 08.11.2022 to rename the department “Dynamics and Strength of Machines” (DMM) to the department: “Mathematical Modeling and intelligent computing in engineering” (MMI)

Our graduates successfully work as scientists, programmers, engineers and entrepreneurs in many countries of the world: Bulgaria, Hungary, Vietnam, Germany, Israel, Canada, China, Poland, Russia, the USA.

docent, Candidate of Technical Sciences

Competitive advantages of our specializations: modern learning technologies; practice and scholarships of the European Union countries; learning that takes place on real tasks; employment in the best global companies and universities. Our graduates work as researchers and engineers in the largest Ukrainian and global engineering and IT companies engaged in the design and development of new technology. R&D centers have the greatest demand for our graduates: “Progresstech Ukraine”, “Boeing”, “BIIR”, “SoftInWay”, “Actualna Mechanika”, UPEK and others. And also IT companies: , NIX-solutions, GlobalLogic, AltexSoft and many others.

Directions of scientific activity

Currently, the scientific school of dynamics, strength, reliability and optimization of complex machines and structures under conditions of intense load is developing in the following directions: nonlinear mechanics of thin-walled structural elements; forecasting the reliability of structural elements, taking into account the randomness of the load and the properties of the system under different physical failure models; mathematical modeling in problems of technological mechanics of products made of polymer composite materials; research of thermophysical, thermoelastic and rheological properties of composite materials using micromechanics methods; development of the theory of layered shells with layers of materials with piezoelectric properties; development of scientific foundations, algorithms and software tools for applying the method of boundary integral equations for solving three-dimensional problems of the mechanics of a solid medium; development of methods of strength calculations and research of elements of wheel pairs of diesel locomotives in operational and optimal technological modes; development of computerized methods of experimental research of parts of highly loaded machines with the aim of extending their resource and working out diagnostic signs for the next inclusion in the diagnostic system.
