Career guidance work at the department is carried out in different ways, one of them is participation in university-wide career guidance events organized by the Central Admissions Committee of NTU “KhPI” and held both in Kharkiv and far beyond. One of such events was the “Scientific Festival of STEM education with NTU ”KhPI” for applicants from Chernivtsi and the region, which took place from May 19 to 23, 2025. This event was attended by representatives of the graduating departments of two educational and scientific institutes of NTU “KPI” – the Institute of MIT and the Institute of EEE. Assoc. prof. Eugene Yascheritsin took part in the above event from our department.
It should be noted that this event consisted of several independent ones. Thus, in general education institutions of Chernivtsi: Chernivtsi lyceums №17 “Success”, №14, №7 and №13 held STEM-quests “Engineering of the Future” on May 19, 20, 21, and 23, respectively. These events were held as follows: students of grades 10-11, on their own initiative, were organized into 8-10 teams, each with up to 10 members. After that, they visited STEM-zones, one of which – “Materials of the 21st Century” – included a career guidance exposition of our department. It included devices for monitoring hazardous and harmful production factors: a Mestek IR01C pyrometer; VTMETER VT-816V and MS-13 digital wing anemometers, a Robotron RTF 00024 sound level meter, a Yu-116 luxmeter, and a GM 3120 electromagnetic radiation tester, as well as flyers and career guidance posters.
Before completing the quest quiz, the exposition manager of the department told the students about the prospects of the J4 specialty “Occupational Safety and Health”, the educational program “Occupational Safety and Health”, opportunities for internships, training and obtaining a double degree in foreign universities. They also discussed employment prospects and the positions that young specialists in this field will take after graduation.
It is clear that the students – future applicants – were interested in the possibility of working with devices for monitoring hazardous and harmful production factors. It was on the example of the assembly halls of the lyceums where this event was held that assoc. prof. Eugene Yascheritsin demonstrated to the students how to determine the parameters of hazardous and harmful factors, such as: noise level – 71…84 dBA, illumination level at different points – 300…5200 lux, magnetic induction – 0…99.9 μT; air temperature during these events ranged from 18.5 to 21.5 °C, humidity – 46-55%, air velocity less than 0.1 m/s. After that, students completed the quest tasks and moved on to the next task in the same or another STEM zone. The winner was the team that completed the task correctly and came to the finish line first.
For the educational institutions in Chernivtsi, where these events were held, it was a significant event in the educational work carried out in these educational institutions. This is evidenced by a post on the Facebook page of Chernivtsi Lyceum №14 – www.facebook.com/lyceum14cv/videos/1378772146702317?locale=uk_UA, a video that has gained 32 likes and 622 views; Chernivtsi Lyceum №7 – www.facebook.com/lyceum7/?locale=uk_UA, a post about the event, which garnered 44 likes and Chernivtsi Lyceum №13 – www.facebook.com/cvlyceum13/?locale=uk_UA, the message about the event received 15 likes, respectively.
However, while these educational institutions were attended by students in grades 10-11 from one or two lyceums, the Chernivtsi Regional Center “Youth of Bukovyna” hosted a much larger number of students (about 250) from a large number of educational institutions in both Chernivtsi and the region in the stem festival “Engineering of the Future” on May 22. The purpose of this festival was to familiarize high school students with modern engineering specialties, which are taught at our university. The welcoming speech to the participants of the event was made by the director of the Institute of EEE of NTU “KPI” – Tomashevsky R.S. This event consisted of two parts: visiting STEM-zones of various engineering directions, in one of which, of course, our department took part.
The second part of the competition was a Kahoot-quiz in the areas of Applied Mechanics and Materials, Electric Power, Electromechanics and Robotics, Transportation and Engineering Safety. The questions for the last Kahoot – the quiz “Engineering Safety” regarding the specialty J4 “Occupational Safety” were provided by assoc. prof. Iryna Mezentseva. The winners of these quizzes received gifts from NTU “KhPI”.
Undoubtedly, the scientific festival of STEM education from NTU “KhPI” did a great job – it introduced students of Chernivtsi and the region to various specialties of engineering education at the Institute of EEE and the Institute of MIT at NTU ‘KhPI’, including the specialty J4 “Occupational health and safety”. So we hope to attract them during this year’s admission campaign to the ranks of our students!
The career guidance work of the department’s teachers continues!
