Meeting at Metro School

On May 16, our leading lecturers, the Head of the Department, Prof. Olena Fedorenko, and Prof. Viktoriia Taranenkova, met with students of Metro School. We had the opportunity to talk with the school students in person, learn about their aspirations and future plans, and meet our potential applicants. We truly miss this live, two-way communication, these open looks and interested eyes.

Olena Fedorenko spoke about our university, its prestige and high rankings, the admission offers of our department, and introduced the students to the workplaces of our graduates. She emphasized the opportunities and career prospects that studying in our specialty opens up, and also highlighted the various activities our students are involved in, such as science, international competitions and exchanges, cultural life, and more.

The students were especially interested in one of the department’s research areas — the synthesis of artificial, including jewelry, gemstones. Prof. Viktoriia Taranenkova spoke about artificial rubies and sapphires, topazes, and showed crystal clusters — druses of natural quartz such as amethyst and rock crystal. She also surprised the students with “fool’s gold” — crystals of natural pyrite, an iron sulfide.

The meeting at Metro School showed the necessity and value of such communication for both sides, so we agreed to continue our meetings in the future.
