On June 16, 2026, the Department of Industrial and Biomedical Electronics at the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” held an online defense of a bachelor’s qualification thesis by international student Heba Mahmoud Saleh Muhammad.
The defense was conducted in English in a remote format. The graduate presented the results of an independent research and engineering project devoted to the development of a thermographic system for the analysis of biological objects — a relevant area at the intersection of biomedical electronics, thermal imaging, and digital signal processing.
During the presentation, the student described the purpose and relevance of the research, the hardware architecture of the system based on a Raspberry Pi microcomputer and an MLX90640 thermal sensor, as well as methods of digital processing of thermograms using wavelet transforms. The proposed solution is intended for medical and diagnostic applications and demonstrates the practical potential of affordable thermal imaging technologies.
Following the presentation, the candidate answered questions from the examination committee regarding sensor calibration, selection of regions of interest, the rationale for the chosen hardware configuration, and the advantages of wavelet transform over Fourier transform for thermal image processing.
The official review noted the high technical level of the work, its compliance with the requirements of the educational program in specialty 171 “Electronics, Electronic Communications, Instrumentation Engineering and Radio Engineering,” and the student’s publication activity, including a presentation at the MicroCAD 2026 international conference.
Based on the results of the discussion, the state examination committee recommended awarding the Bachelor’s degree in Electronics with an excellent grade.
