The department’s developments receive patents, are introduced into production, and are demonstrated at international exhibitions. The model of a mobile unit for cleaning and regeneration of lubricating and cooling media, which was developed by the creative team headed by V. V. Berezutsky, won first place in the Energy Saving Technologies category at the All-Ukrainian Competition of Innovative Technologies in Ukraine in 2006. An electrochemical purification apparatus for contaminated water, developed under the guidance of professor V. Berezutskyi, was introduced at a motor transport company in Zaporizhzhia.
It publishes textbooks, guidelines, monographs and scientific articles.
In 2005, as part of the NTU “KhPI” ‘Textbook’ program, the department staff published textbooks for the courses “Occupational Health and Safety”, “Life Safety”, “Civil Defense” and textbooks for laboratory and practical work for these courses with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science, which repeatedly won prizes at competitions of methodological works of NTU “KhPI”. In 2006, the team of authors of the textbook “Life Safety” edited by professor V. Berezutsky won first place at the All-Ukrainian competition “The Best Work on Life Safety and Health Fundamentals – 2006” organized by the Academy of Safety and Health Fundamentals of Ukraine. In 2008, the textbook “Life Safety” (second edition) took first place in a competition for teaching materials at the NTU “KhPI”.
In 2005-2008, for four consecutive years, the department organized the second round of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline “Life Safety,” in which students from 50 higher educational institutions of Ukraine took part.
In 2008, our department organized and conducted the first International Student Olympiad of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the field of life safety. From 2009 to 2016, this event was held in an innovative format for that time, namely an online Olympiad.

Between 2011 and 2016, the department welcomed candidate of technical sciences G. Yu. Bakhareva, candidate of technical sciences O. G. Yanchik, O. I. Ilyinskaya, candidate of technical sciences G. M. Pancheva, сandidate of pedagogical siences G. Yu. Kravchenko, O. V. Osmanova and candidate of technical sciences L. O. Yashchenko joined the department.

With the arrival of young teachers, general courses began to be taught in English. This process was initiated by professors V. V. Berezutsky and M. M. Latysheva, associate professor G. Yu. Bakhareva and senior lecturer I. M. Lyubchenko. Currently, eight lecturers (V. V. Berezutsky, S. A. Vambol, N. S. Yevtushenko, O. I. Ilyinskaya, O. A. Maksymenko, I. O. Mezentseva, N. Ye. Movmyga, N. Ye. Tverdokhlebova) which is almost half of the department, have a B2 certificate in English and teach general and specialized subjects.
Professor V. V. Berezutsky’s scientific school is well known in the field of environmental safety, environmental protection technologies, and occupational safety. Combining administrative and scientific work, he made a rather interesting combination of issues related to risks in both occupational safety and environmental safety. Under his direct supervision, six doctoral dissertations were defended:

One of Professor V. V. Berezutsky’s most famous students is P. V. Odaryuk, who has headed the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region since 2013.
Today, P. V. Odaryuk is a major general in the civil protection service, an honorary professor at the National University of Civil Protection of Ukraine, and an honorary member of the International Academy of Ukrainian Rescue Services.

In total, during the years of V. V. Berezutsky’s leadership of the department, 16 dissertations were defended by employees, namely: 2 doctoral dissertations (V. V. Berezutsky, G. Yu. Kravchenko), 13 candidate dissertations (D. L. Donsky, Ye. O. Semenov, O. S. Lisogor, P. V. Odaryuk, Radwan Araf Bissouni (Egypt), I. O. Mezentseva, N. O. Bukatenko, Ye. V. Yashcheritsyn, N. Ye. Movmyga, N. S. Yevtushenko, V. V. Makarenko, O. I. Ilyinskaya, O. A. Maksimenko and 1 lecturer received a Ph.D. degree (N. Ye. Tverdokhlebova).
