All employees of the department regularly underwent advanced training every three years. The most memorable events were the training in 1996 in Kyiv at the Center for Retraining and Advanced Training at the State Committee of Ukraine for Supervision of Occupational Safety and Health and the training seminar for teachers of higher education institutions held in June 2012 at the Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
In recent years, advanced training and internships abroad have become increasingly popular. Thus, in 2017, associate professor O. Kuzmenko completed a scientific and pedagogical internship at the ESEI International Business School (Barcelona, Spain); associate professor N. Movmyha – in 2023, she completed an online internship at Cuiavian University (Włocławek, Poland); assistant D. I. Yershov – in 2025, he took a webinar in Ljubljana, Poland.
Associate Professor N. Movmyga is responsible for the professional development of the department’s teachers.
The methodological developments, extensive scientific and pedagogical experience, as well as the powerful staff of the department allowed us to move to a new level of training, and in 2013 the department began training bachelors and then masters in the specialty 263 “Civil security”, educational and professional program “Occupational health and safety”. Since 2025, the specialty has been renamed J4 “Occupational health and safety”.

The department is once again taking on the development of new specialty courses for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Most of the courses were created for the first time and required the development of work programs, syllabi, lecture courses, guidelines for practical and laboratory work, term papers and projects and calculation tasks.

Some teachers had to develop several new disciplines. Thus, professor V. Berezutskyi prepared the courses “Introduction to the specialty”, “Risk Theory” (practical work – associate professor V. Makarenko), “System Analysis in Solving Problems of Professional and Industrial Safety”, “Occupational Safety Management” (practical work – associate professor V. Makarenko), “Risk Management of Equipment and Technologies”; professor S. Wambol – “Safety in Emergency Situations” and “Environmental Protection Technologies”; professor L. Vaskovets – “Human Physiology” and “Industrial Sanitation”; professor O. Dreval – “Safety of Operation of Buildings and Structures” and “Industrial Ecology”; associate professor O. Kuzmenko – “Investigation, accounting and analysis of accidents, occupational diseases and accidents”, “State social insurance against accidents at work”, “Fundamentals of occupational safety and human health”; associate professor Ye. Semenov – “Numerical methods of analysis in labor protection”, “Legal basis of labor protection policy and labor protection”, “Information support of the labor protection management system”; associate professor N. Tverdokhlebova – “Regional Technogenic and Industrial Safety in the Context of Sustainable Development” and “First Emergency Medical Aid in Emergency Situations”; associate professor O. Yanchyk – “Electrical Safety” and “Prevention of Accidents at Work”.

Associate professor I. O. Mezentseva developed one of the main courses “Safety of Production Processes and Equipment”, which is taught for two semesters. She started this work with senior lecturer I. Lyubchenko. The discipline “Fundamentals of Engineering Training” was developed by associate professor L. Chunikhina and associate professor N. Yevtushenko; “Fundamentals of Scientific Research” by professor L. Vaskovets and associate professor O. Iliinska; and the disciplines “Socio-Economic Fundamentals of Occupational Safety and Health”, “Occupational Safety and Health Expertise” and “Safe Operation of Engineering Systems and Structures” by professor V. Raiko and associate professor O. Iliinska. The course “Organizational and Technical Support for the Audit of Workplaces in the Industry” was developed by associate professors N. Yevtushenko and N. Tverdokhlebova. The course “Safety of Labor and Professional Activity” was developed by associate professors O. Yanchyk and I. Mezentseva.
There were courses that were started by some teachers and finished by others. For example, the discipline “Certification of Workplaces by Working Conditions,” which was later renamed “Assessment of Compliance of Working Conditions with Workplaces,” was developed by professor V. Horbenko and improved by associate professor O. Kuzmenko. The discipline “Theory of Combustion and Explosion” was developed by professor M. Latysheva, and is now taught by associate professor O. Maksymenko. The discipline “Metrology, Standardization, Certification and Accreditation” was developed by associate professor H. Pancheva, and is now taught by associate professor N. Movmyga.
